Alleged Geforce GTX ‘Titan X’ Specs and Benches Leak Out – SiSoft Sandra Does it Again

Something pretty interesting popped up on the inter-webs recently. Many forums, from Overclock.net, to Notebookreview.com have started reporting on an enigmatic SiSoft Sandra benchmark that appeared approximately 24 hours back. On casual inspection the bench appears to be a GM200 test run. Needless to say, this is as unreliable as unreliable gets, so please take a good look at the little tag at the top.nvidia_geforce_gtx_titanz_sli

Nvidia’s next generation GM200 GPU allegedly rocks 3072 CUDA cores and upto 1.2Ghz boost clock

Before we begin, let me make something clear, I do not know what the GM200 GPU will be called. It could be the GTX 980 Ti, It could be Titan II/X or any other variation thereof. It should be pretty clear that the name I have used above is just a placeholder since I can’t really keep on calling it ‘the-GPU-with-GM200-inside’. Basically, this particular leak stems from SiSoft Sandra’s benchmark database (something on which I will be keeping a close eye from now on) just like the massive AMD Carrizo Leak a few days back. Whoever, conducted the bench made sure to hide most of the ID Codes and identifying information but some specs and the Nvidia logo were left out, perhaps deliberately. It also raises the question whether the results are spoofed. Usually faking synthetic benchmarks is near impossible, but I have no personal experience with SiSoft so I won’t comment further.GM200 3072 CUDA Cores
If the benchmark is truly of the next Maxwell Flagship, then we are looking at a CUDA Core count of 3072 in 24 SMMs. Since there are 24 Streaming Maxwell Processors and each SMM has 8 TMUs to it, I can further deduce that this card has 192 TMUs.  You can expect 96 ROPs to go along with it. A slightly odd number, but nothing to really set alarm bells ringing. It features 3MB of L2 cache, 384 bit bus width and perhaps most surprisingly, 12GB vRam coupled with a low 6GHZ frequency. As forum members have pointed out, this is usually indicative of a professional GPU. The GPU does feature the trademark high clocks of the Maxwell architecture, which are well above the 1.1Ghz mark when boosting but has a suspiciously large amount of video buffer and a surprisingly low memory clock as I mentioned before. Unless Nvidia is planning to market an 8K Ready Geforce (with an absolutely killer price tag) this is almost certainly a professional GPU, that is, if this leak is legit. Ofcourse, this doesn’t really matter to us, since the chip remains the same, regardless of the branding. That’s all and looks like the new GPU leak season is starting again folks, so stay tuned.

EVEN more GeForce GTX 980 and GTX 970 cards pictured

Inno3d iChill GTX 980
Earlier today Inno3D posted a new teaser of its iChill GTX 980. This is the fastest GTX980 Inno3D will offer.
If you thought that putting three fans on GM204 board is way too much, then what do you think of four? Quite interesting approach has been revealed by Inno3D. There’s a separate 40mm fan on the site.
At least this card boosts up to 1329 MHz. That’s quite a jump.

Gigabyte GTX 970 and GTX 980 G1 Gaming
At last, you can see the first G1 Gaming cards (both 970 and 980 look the same). G1 Gaming series feature new WindForce cooling. Both cards will be available with a backplate. What’s cool about Gigabyte’s cards is that they offer more display connectors than any other custom 900 series card on the market. Open air cooling solution does not require any perforation on the IO bracket, thus Gigabyte put another DVI there, now there are 3 DisplayPorts, 1 HDMI, 1 DVI-D and 1 DVI-I.

ASUS GTX 980
Rather than launching new DirectCU III cooling system, ASUS decided to stick to reference designs and its newest STRIX series. I cannot wait to see GTX 980 MATRIX…

Bonus: MSI GTX 760
I think you should guys know that MSI has also cheaper version of Twin Frozr V cooling being made. This particular card is GTX 760, but since 760  is pretty much the backbone of 970, we should see it under 900 series sooner or later (GTX 960?)

MSI Teases GeForce GTX 970 Gaming - TwinFrozr V

MSI has placed a rednder photo on Facebook what clearly seems to be the new GeForce GTX 970 Gaming edition. All new is the TwinFrozr V cooler. The TwinFrozr V cooler is a more mature looking 2-tone red black cooler with two big low RPM 100 mm fans.
While no details are shared officially the MSI GeForce GTX 970 could have a factory-overclock. The GPU will be an 28 nm GM204 Maxwell generation chip, the GeForce GTX 970 is likely to have 1664 Shader processor cores, 138 TMUs, 32 ROPs, a 256-bit wide memory interface and 4 GB of memory.
That's a good looking cooler though !

Zotac GeForce GTX 970 Photo's Surface

Over at a thread in overclock.net a photo appeared from a user called Alatar, basically a distributor posted some stuff on GeForce GTX 970 and 980, and he apparently included a photo of the GeForce GTX 970 from Zotac. Other then the photo there are no specs or anything, but its looking to be a nice little card.
Here is what was posted on facebook at PCHub:
It seems that the biggest PC parts retailer here in our country has some more information regarding the new cards.

Looking at the GTX 970/980-related post and the comments below, not only is there a shot of a Zotac 970, what's most interesting to me are the price ranges of the cards with the 980 being about the same price as the 780Ti here in our country and the 970 priced slightly lower than a stock 780. Nothing is confirmed though, but I guess the $500 price for the 980 may not be true after all?
And here the photo of that Zotac GeForce GTX 970:

NVIDIA's Flagship Spotted GM 200 GPU

It looks like Zauba.com has become a pretty good source to spot graphics processing units as the shipping site has revealed several NVIDIA GPUs over the last few months. This has happened once again as 3DCenter was able to find a shipping manifest of NVIDIA’s upcoming flagship GeForce Maxwell GM200 GPU which will hit the consumer market next year.GeForce Maxwell GM200 GPU

NVIDIA’s Flagship GeForce Maxwell GM200 GPU Spotted

So what makes this spotting so special? There are no images, no specifications, no assurance or whatsoever that this might be true but recent leaks such as the GM204 PCB reveal and the codenames matched earlier listings on the site which makes these listings somewhat believable if not entirely true. The GM200 chip mentioned in the shipping list originated from Taiwan where it was manufactured and will be discharged in Banglore, India. The sample was dispatched on 8th July 2014 which means that the GM200 GPU is already in-works but will take some time to reach mass production before it begins shipment to market. The GM200 GPU is codenamed as GM200-INT0-A1 which means this is the first revision of the core and we may see newer revisions (B1) in the future but for now the A1 revisions is what will be featured on graphics cards for servers and consumers.

While the GM204 chip which was revealed a while back is bigger than its GK104 predecessor, it’s still a bit small compared to GK110. Its hard to tell if the GM200 GPU will be larger or equivalent in size as compared to GK110, its last generation Kepler equivalent but from what we have seen, it will be a huge die returning to the legacy of the big die sizes which NVIDIA has been known for but will be extremely power efficient and house several more cores. The chip is planned for launch in 2015 which would give ample time for 20nm production through TSMC but previous reports show that NVIDIA might ditch 20nm in favor of 16nm FinFET so that could be a possibility but will result in a longer delay period. From what little details we can gather, TSMC will commence volume production of 16nm FinFET+ nodes in Q1 2015 which would mean a Q2/Q3 2015 time for GM200 GPUs to appear on the new process or they could move the launch a bit earlier by sticking with 20nm which is already under production since Q1 2014 but prioritized for Apple till Q2 2014 which is over now.

While GM200 GPU will be the real flagship graphics processor of the Maxwell lineup, it won’t make it to the consumer market till 2H 2015 and the earliest shipments would be reserved for the HPC (Super-Computing) and Server market as was the case with GK110 before it. To make the launch of the GM200 GPU special, NVIDIA can do another Titan-like launch since their GK110 also debuted in the consumer space as the GeForce GTX Titan first followed by GeForce GTX 700 series in Q2 2013. We don’t have accurate reports whether there will be another Titan GPU or something new such as Atlas or Zeus (Let’s make up some god-like names) but at the end of the day, its the performance and availability that matters. Specifications summed up by 3DCenter sounds nothing more than a wishlist but they do have some good reasons behind it so let’s list them down:

Speculated GeForce GM200 GPU Details:

  1. Confirmed:  GeForce Maxwell architecture
  2. Safe:  planned for the enthusiast / professional segment (successor of the GK110 chips)
  3. Pretty sure:  28nm manufacturing by TSMC
  4. Pretty certain  tape-out June / July 2014
  5. Speculative:  up to ~ 600mm ² die area
  6. Speculative:  DirectX 12 in hardware
  7. Speculative:  ~ 4000 shader units
  8. Speculative:  512-bit DDR memory interface
  9. Accepted:  performance index to ~ 4000 shader units roughly ~ 750% to ~ 800% (level GeForce GTX 780 Ti +40% to +50%)
Saying that the chip taped out in June / July 2014 is a safe guess since GK110 was taped out a month before the GK104 came out in the market as the GeForce GTX 680. But saying that it would use the current 28nm process does sound a bit unbelievable considering that it would be look bad for NVIDIA to stay on a old process die moving in 2015 when 20nm would be available to the masses or this could mean that NVIDIA moving to 16nm FinFET may very well be true aside since they can use the existing process die for the first generation GM200 GPU and launch a revision using the smaller die node. Its no doubt that we are on the verge of the launch of a new generation of graphics cards from both NVIDIA and AMD which will leverage the graphics performance of the PC industry in terms of both efficiency, compute and visuals. There’s still a few months before we start getting more info on these cards but hold on to your seats as there’s a lot more to come.

Gigabyte GTX 750 Ti Black Edition

If you are looking for a budget friendly GPU that just works, this is it the Gigabyte GTX 750 Ti Black Edition.  The Black edition mean's it is badass and ready to pack a punch, on this card we have 2GB GDDR5, Memory clock 5400MHz, Base Clock 1163MHz and Boost of 1242MHz all this and only requiring 400W all thanks to the maxwell chip inside. Comparing this to the standard GTX 750 Ti we see a difference in performance worth paying for, Base Clock 1033MHz and Boost of 1111MHz.

You are able to run up to 4k on this little card using the two HDMI ports, Gigabyte has put its after market cooler the Windforce with two ultra quiet fans. This little card is something that everyone on a budget should have.

The Australian pricing is currently at $209, which if you ask me is pretty good value for your money.

GTX 880/870 Due OCT/NOV!

Recently there has been a lot of news surrounding Nvidia’s GTX 880 GPU based on the next generation Maxwell architecture. We found through shipping details that the card will feature a 256 bit bus as compared to 256 or 512bit. The details received only specifying a high end Maxwell GM204 housing a 256 bit wide bus. Well folks at Sweclockers.com have sent us something very interesting. They have reportedly received details regarding the release dates of Nvidia’s desktop GeForce GTX 800 series. The launch is expected to take place in the fourth quarter this year.
Maxwell-GTX-750-

Nvidia GeForce GTX 880 and GTX 870 Now Expected To Arrive Sometime Between October-December

Sweclockers is reporting that Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 880 and GTX 870 are now expected to be with us somewhere around the fourth quarter this year. This places the arrival schedule for the desktop GPUs in the period between October to December. The knowledge comes to the website from partner manufacturers of Nvidia. This upcoming launch of the cards will now mark the starting of the 800 series of desktop GPUs. Of course, the GTX 800 will be based on second generation Maxwell architecture. In addition, the new model series is still to be based on the 28 nm manufacturing technology. This is because even though TSMC has begun volume production on the 20nm node for everyone, the process is facing maturation problems for high performance ASICs like the GM204, but this is expected to start from sometime next year. In addition, it has also been learnt that Nvidia has canceled the production of GM100 chips and is now focusing completely on GM200 instead. These GPUs are still using the 28nm fabrication process.
I think we can now safely conclude that 20nm GPUs will come in 2015. This series is to become the Intermediary GPUs that we have been talking about for a long time. It is possible that one or two GPUs in the Geforce 800 Series lineup are 20nm but that is a long shot and will only happen in mid-late 2015. Another thing to add is that this second generation of Maxwell Architecture is speculated to feature ARM cores which could be a potential game changer. So 28nm Maxwell is coming, possibly with ARM cores but 20nm remains as far away as ever.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 800 Series

We have just received some really pleasant news on Nvidia’s Maxwell Architecture, the 20nm side of things to be exact. The new report basically mentions a few things; firstly, that the GTX 880 will be more powerful than the GTX 780, something common sense derives easily. And secondly that the GTX 880 will be cheaper than its 700 Series Counterpart. Now this, is the really interesting bit.Maxwell GTX 750

20nm Maxwell GTX 880 and GTX 880 Ti to be Cheaper and More Powerful than 700 Series Counterparts

Slowly but surely, news about 20nm GPUs is beginning to leak from different sources. We learned that TSMC has finally started 20nm Volume Production (for Nvidia and AMD) and that we cant really expect 20nm lineups before 2015 or late 2014 at the earliest. Now our source EXPReview.com is stating that the GTX 880 and GTX 880 Ti will be much more powerful but cheaper than the GTX 780 and GTX 780 Ti respectively. Now, take this with a pinch of salt. These guys have never failed us in the past so I owe it to them to not label it as a rumor. However, contra revenue isn’t really Nvidia’s de facto standard (point Titan Z) to put it bluntly and incurs slight disbelief on my part. Ofcourse it could simply be that production cost has been decreased, but that once again, makes no sense.
Now heres the funny thing. Reports in the past have indicated that there is a chance of a high end 20nm Maxwell Card in late 2014. This card could be the 20nm GTX 880 Maxwell. The chances are very slim, but the fact remains that unless Nvidia brings out intermediary Maxwell cards based on the 28nm node it could loose market share to AMD who is already working on intermediary GPUs. There is also the fact that TSMC has begun volume production for both parties, so a 20nm Flagship from Nvidia is not out of the question. I for one would be really happy to see Nvidia price the Maxwell Flagship GTX 880 lower than the GTX 780, because it would turn the heat on AMD. And that means much more fierce competition, and though that would suck for both companies (Game Theory), for us consumers, nothing could be better.
