A Couple of New The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Images Revealed Showcasing Incredible In-Game Character Details and Textures

While there are some brand new, very tempting IPs coming out next year, there is one highly anticipated video game title that is leading one of the most famous open world action-adventure fantasy role-playing video game series to an end. Listed as the third and last installment in the series, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is the pinnacle to the Witcher series, but while wrapping up the story of Geralt of Rivia, the main protagonist of the series, the upcoming game’s storyline also works as a standalone package that players new and old will enjoy thoroughly, as they get another chance to be the legendary witcher.
The Witcher: 3 Wild Hunt is the biggest role-playing game by CD Project Red, featuring a gameplay that will keep players busy for over 100 hours. Squeezing all the power out of PlayStation 4, Xbox One and the latest PC hardware, the upcoming RPG features jaw-dropping, responsive and dynamic in-game environments that are powered by the new REDengine 3. Everything from the grass textures to dynamic day and night system is completely optimized to provide the best gameplay experience.
Recenty, a NeoGAF member known as Turin Turambar came up with two high-resolution The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s images that showcase incredibly detailed in-game characters. The attention to detail in the images is very high, but the square-ish fingers of the models packing low polygons make it pretty clear that these are in-game assets, however, we can’t say if the characters during actual gameplay will feature such high quality textures. CD Projekt Red is fond of sharpening filters so these images might possibility be slightly touched up. Nevertheless, they are pretty amazing, so go ahead an have a look at them below.

Nvidia ‘Big Daddy’ Maxwell GM200 GPU Alleged Specs Leaked – GTX 980 Ti or GTX Titan X?

[Rumor] Wow that took absolutely no time at all. Barely a few days have passed and the first rumblings of the Mysterious GM200 GPU are already upon us. The Chinese tech publication PCTuning.com, the first site to leak the GTX 980 specs I might add, has just released the GM200 GPU’s (namely GTX 980 Ti and/or maybe the new Titan) technical specifications citing insider sources. Keep in mind though, that this is still just a rumor since I cannot personally verify the authenticity of the information, although this is isn’t pure speculation either.NVIDIA Maxwell GM204

Nvidia Geforce GTX 980 Ti / GTX Titan X ‘GM200′ Specs Allegedly Leaked

First of all, I would like to apologize in advance for the heading. I do not know what the GM200 GPU will be called, but since I have to name the article something appropriate, 980 Ti and Titan X will have to do. Anyways here are the specs as mentioned byPCTuning:
  • Die Size: 551mm^2
  • SMMs/CUDA Cores: 20-22/ 2560-2816
  • Memory Bus: 384 Bit
  • Performance: ~50% Boost over GTX Titan Black
  • Launch: Q4 2014
Now, the publication mentions that the professional and gaming equivalents will release together and there is a chance that Nvidia will keep the GM200 GPU for the professional space only. In such a case a “Geforce GTX 990″ is expected rocking two GM204 Cores. This is where the actual leak from PCTuning ends and I take the reigns on conjecture, so if speculation isn’t your cup of tea you might want to skip this part.
Basically, we already know that the GM200 chip/GTX 980 Ti/TitanX is completely ready. Its customer samples were tested a few weeks back and if it follows the same trend as the Gm204 then it should be out and about within 2 months at most. This is confirmed by data from the shipping portal zauba.com. Before the first ‘CS’ entry which appeared on 12th August 2014, there had only been entries using the nomenclature ‘INT’ which means the core is meant for Internal Testing. Because green follows the same pattern we knew that once the INT chips were spotted the CS chips wouldn’t be that far behind and  chips with the name GM200-CS0-A1 and GM200-CS1-A1 were soon spotted, indicating that the GPU is now ready. This core will have double the performance per watt of the GK110 core (as can be seen from the research paper) and we should see an amazing leap in gaming performance from 204 to 200.
Now while the GM204-A1 die is based on the 28nm process, and as I have previously mentioned before sources inside the industry tell me Nvidia is thinking about porting the circuit to 20nm in 2015. There is also one more path Nvidia can choose. I believe that Nvidia is keeping the Gm200 GPU as the ultimate checkmate against AMD. If AMD rolls out a competing flagship on the 28nm node, by my estimates the GM200 should have the performance crown. Either way, the leak scene is starting again.

Nvidia GTX Titan II Flagship with GM200 Core Is Launching Sooner Than Expected – Ready Within 2 Months

[Editorial] Remember that piece we did on Nvidia’s Research Paper? the one that claimed that the GM200 flagship core would be launching in this year? Well turns out there was something to it after all. I was doing my habitual cursory inspection of the shipping data at Zauba.com and I spotted the entry we have been waiting for. The Customer Sample of the GM200 core. The Customer Sample means that most of the internal testing of the GM200 is now complete and they are now refining the end product.

Nvidia GM200 ‘Maxwell Flagship’ Core Internal Testing Finished – GTX Titan II Coming Soon

Now I am not sure whether I have told you guys this before but Nvidia is hosting a very big reveal event on 10 – 12 September next month and this is where the second generation Maxwell will make its debut. Nvidia will be hosting a reveal event and we will probably see the GTX 900 Mobility series unveiled too. However, we just mighteven see the next iteration of the Titan series at the reveal too, considering the fact that shipping data shows the GPU is now completely ready. Do keep in mind that I do not know what the card will be called, but Titan II seems like a good name as any. Here is the shipping entry from Zauba.com  that confirms that the GM200 aka the Titan II GPU are now exiting the internal testing state:GM200 Customer Sample TITAN II
Before the first ‘CS’ entry which appeared on 12th August 2014, there had only been entries using the nomenclature ‘INT’ which means the core is meant for Internal Testing. Because green follows the same pattern we knew that once the INT chips were spotted the CS chips wouldn’t be that far behind and it looks like our waiting has paid off because the chips with the name GM200-CS0-A1 and GM200-CS1-A1 have been spotted, indicating that the GPU is now more or less ready. This core will have double the performance per watt of the GK110 core (as can be seen from the research paper) and we should see an amazing leap in gaming performance from 204 to 200. So the jump from Titan to the Titan II is shaping out to be pretty cool.
The GTX Titan II (or whatever it is called) should give you a minimum of 50% performance increase in Gaming in real life settings, seeing we are looking at a 100% boost in on-paper performance. Considering the fact that the research paper by Nvidia also claimed that the Titan II would be out before the end of 2014 means that the time line for this GPU is now more or less confirmed. I believe we are looking at a 2 Month launch window considering the history of the GM204 core.  That would put the the launch of the GM200 GPU somewhere around November, unless Nvidia manages to pull one on us and launch alongside GM204.

Maxwell Geforce GTX 870 Specifications and Benchmarks Leak Out

Hey folks, looks like the leak period of the Maxwell Geforce 800 Series has finally started because specifications and benchmarks of the GTX 870 have leaked out. Even though the leak comes from a source (Coolaler.com) that has leaked authentic information in the past, I would still recommend just the tiniest pinch of salt just in case.
Maxwell-GTX-880-

Geforce GTX 870 Specs and Performance Leaked – 1664 CUDA Cores, 4GB GDDR5, 256Bit BUS and 4GB GDDR5

The entire leak consists of a couple of screen shots and at close inspection everything appears to be legit with not a hair out of place. As expected, the GPU core, which is GM204, is not properly recognized and the name detected shows Nvidia’s internal nomenclature. I ran the name “Nvidia 17D-20″ in a few databases but it didn’t net me anything else. This probably the engineering sample of the 870 and the code allocated to the GPU is 13C2. I am guessing that the 13 Stands for 13 SMMs and C2 stands for Consumer Chip no. 2. I am assuming the actual flagship will be named either 16C2 or 17C2 depending on the amount of Streaming Multiprocessor Maxwells (SMMs). A lot of other specs are not properly recognized and this is to be expected since there is no way that the GPU-Z tool has been updated to support Maxwell GPUs yet. The screen shots not only show the specifications but also reveal the 3D Mark Extreme and Performance scores as well, which is great because it allows us to rank the GPU among Nvidia’s existing cards. Since they are using an i7-4820K we can assume no CPU Bottleneck. Without any further ado, here are the complete specs of the high end Geforce GTX 870:

Now there is some pretty interesting information about this card. The 3d Mark performance benchmark of the GTX 870 is 11,919 and the extreme score is 4625. Now the GTX 780 scores around that point (4625) so any fears of the Maxwell series actually being weaker than its predecessor should be allayed. If the GTX 870 can score around the GTX 780 then the 880 should score more than the 780 Ti. The specs listed show 1664 CUDA Cores, which means that we are looking at a grand total of 13 SMMs (128 Cores per SMM, 1664/128 = 13). Following the previous generation trend, the Maxwell flagship should have 17 SMMs with a CUDA Core count of 2170 respectively. Basically, you should expect an SMM value of 14 – 17. I Will be really surprised if it goes any higher. The Pixel Fillrate appears to be 33.6 GPixels per second and the Texture Fillrate is 145 GPixels per second. In comparison the values of the 770 were 33.5 and 134 respectively. The bandwidth is 224 GB/s which is to be expected since the card has a 256 Bit Interface. Another interesting thing is that the memory used belongs to Samsung and not Hynix. So there you go folks, the first authentic looking leak regarding the Geforce GTX 870 Maxwell.

iPhone 6 Retail Box

Well folks, now we can finally say that we’ve seen it all about the iPhone 6, and that too before it’s September 9 launch. From renders, to alleged pictures of the device to its internal components, the internet has revealed Apple’s flagship device almost completely. Well now courtesy of TechRadar, we can now even take a look at the iPhone 6 in what appears to be its retail box.
Apple is expected to ship two variants of the iPhone 6 this September. The launch date of September 9 has practically been confirmed everywhere outside of Apple. Two models of the iPhone 6 are expected to be launched. This will have screen sizes of 4.7 and 5.5 inches. However as far as the release of these devices goes, the 5.5″ iPhone 6 is expected to be released by Cupertino as later as a month from the 4.7″ variant. This is owing to production delays.

Alleged iPhone 6 Retail Box Images Surface – The Real Deal?

According to techradar.com the images appear to be taken by an Apple beta tester. Apart from this, there is no confirmation or evidence related to their authenticity. But the product shown in the images does look remarkably like an Apple product. In addition, all the features highlighted in it are not much different than what we’ve learnt so far about the flagship device.
iphone6-1-580-90
Nothing’s for sure yet, but we are indeed looking at a very thin device here. Some of the features that match previous leaks include a larger screen size, a much thinner device plus the side buttons and the camera and other options at the top of the device. All we can do is wait for September now, to really confirm their authenticity.

Nvidia Quadro New Series Lineup Arriving on 12th August – K420, K620, K2200, K4200 and K5200 Confirmed

Our Japanese colleagues over at Hermitage Akihabara have revealed the launch date and the lineup of the new Quadro series. I will not be tagging this one as rumor, since their leaks have been spot on in the past. The new series (so far) will consist of Quadro K420, K620, K2200, K4200 and K5200 and will paper launch on the 12th of this month with SKUs being available soon after. It is unknown how many of the lineup is Maxwell and how much is Kepler, though speculation on the same certainly exists.NVIDIA Quadro K6000 GPU

Nvidia Quadro K420, K620, K2200, K4200 and K5200 Launching on 12th August

Now I know the first thing anyone will ask is, are they Maxwell? Well, the lineup will almost certainly have Maxwell SKUs but it is just as certain that there are going to be Kepler parts as well. What is arguable, is the number of Maxwell Counterparts. Now we did have some previously revealed data on the lineup from driver changelogs andbased on that, we are looking at 2 Maxwells. Both of them are allegedly, GM107 cores. That would also make these Quadros the 750/750Ti’s of the professional world, with the actual Flagship and the equivalent of the Quadro K6000 coming later. Now The 5200 is supposedly based on a Kepler core, which makes it an unsuitable replacement for the K6000. A GM204 Quadro K6000 replacement, would be perfect for Nvidia’s value chain, unless they decide to go with GM200 directly. Here is the lineup leaked thanks to Laptop Video2Go and confirmed by HA:

  • NVIDIA Quadro K420 (NVIDIA_DEV.0FF3 )
  • NVIDIA Quadro K/M 620 (NVIDIA_DEV.13BB) Speculated GM107 Core
  • NVIDIA Quadro K/M 2200 (NVIDIA_DEV.13BA) Speculated GM107 Core
  • NVIDIA Quadro K4200 (NVIDIA_DEV.11B4)
  • NVIDIA Quadro K5200 (NVIDIA_DEV.103C)

Now interestingly the source mentions doubling of memory, and I am not entirely sure what to make of that. Are we looking at double the memory of the older generation? or what? But since the launch is just a few days away, it is kind of pointless to speculate at this point. However, I would like to pick a bone with Nvidia’s nomenclature. The first alphabet depicts the architecture. So naming a Maxwell card ‘K’xxx/x is absurd, but Nvidia  would have trouble switching over to the ‘M’ letter, not without utterly messing up the system. Here is an example, the mobile variants usually have the m suffix, so the technically correct naming of a randomly chosen Maxwell card would be Quadro M2200m but that is semantic redundancy and would be marketing folly.  Green can always decide to name the mobile series differently but that would just be a blunder over a blunder. Either way I would be very interested to see how Nvidia names their flagship professional GPU.

MSI X99S Gaming 9 AC High-Performance Motherboard Unveiled

In addition to their X99S Black Motherboard, MSI has also unveiled their upcoming X99S Gaming 9 AC which is a high-performance motherboard built for gamers. Featuring the same DNA as MSI’s Gaming series products, the MSI X99S Gaming 9 AC is jam packed with tons of features, including a protective armor plating which goes well with the HEDT nature of this product.MSI X99S Gaming 9 AC
MSI wowed hardware enthusiasts last week showing off what is supposed to be the first, full-black PCB board codenamed, MSI X99S Black. Today, MSI is showing off another X99 chipset based motherboard featured in their Gaming brand codenamed, MSI X99S Gaming 9 AC. This confirms that MSI will have various tier X99 boards at launch including their renowned and enthusiast tiered OC series which will probably include the X99S XPOWER. We would love to see that board in action but for now, let’s feast our eyes upon the beastly X99S Gaming 9 AC which has a extremely powerful design and feature set of its own.
Starting with the design scheme, the MSI X99S Gaming 9 AC sticks with the red and black color scheme which MSI has implemented in their Gaming series brand along with several other manufacturers who are using the same scheme. The motherboard has three sets of heatsinks, two along side the VRM, PWM and one on the PCH. The LGA 2011-3 socket is compatible with Intel’s upcoming Haswell-E processors which will be available in retail by this month’s end if reports are true or we will see them in the first week of September. The board features an 8 Phase PWM supply fitted with MSI’s Military Class IV components and powered by a 8+4 Pin power configuration. The LGA 2011-3 socket is coupled by eight DDR4 DIMM slots, four on each sides which can support overclocked DDR4 memory sticks on-the-go.
Since MSI has featured their Military Class IV components, they also use the OC Engine, Power On/Off and Reset switches which come in handy when overclocking this beast of a board. The X99 Express Chipset is seated beneath a large Gaming G-Series heatsink. The heatsink itself resembles a shield with a second shield engraved as a logo in the middle. The heatsink expands out on the top left corner in what’s being touted as some kind of engine which seems to be a source of unknown power (Dragoon Power?), we don’t know if this is related to a performance feature or an add in slot but remains to be seen. Expansion slots include five PCI-Express 3.0 x16 slots which storage includes 10 SATA 6 GB/s and two SATA Express ports. A small diagnostic LED is located at the bottom right hand corner of the board.
Since this is a gaming tier board, MSI will not compromise on additional features and include their Audio Boost ALC 1150 powered chipset and Killer E2200 LAN chip for better audio and networking while a large thermal armor will run across the I/O and audio isolated PCB section for better thermals. In addition to the PCI-E ports, MSI has also added an mSATA SSD slot at the top of the bottom most PCI-e slot for NGFF SSDs. MSI also teased the I/O of the board a while ago featuring a full matte black cover with red I/O ports that include the PS/2 port, 8 Super Speed USB 3.0 ports, 2 USB 2.0 ports, LAN port, 802.11 B/G/N/ AC antenna connectors and a 7.1 Channel audio jack. A USB 3.0 header is also located near the SATA ports for front USB panel. The pricing on the MSI X99S Gaming 9 AC motherboard is not known but we can see this retail at a price above $399 US or vastly greater than its Z97 counterpart. Expect more details on MSI’s next generation X99 chipset motherboards later on.

AMD Toronto APU Will Feature Dual IMC Both DDR3 and DDR4 Will Be Supported

An interesting update on AMD’s Tornoto Platform has appeared. It would seem that AMD is going to allow DDR3 and DDR4 support simaltenously on this particular platform. The leak source is Bitsandchips.it and they detail AMD’s decision about including dual IMC support on Toronto APU.AMD Opteron APU Roadmap

AMD Toronto APU and CPUs will Include Dual IMCs for DDR3 and DDR4 Support

The Toronto APU and CPU are part of the AMD Opteron platform and are going to feature Excavator cores. A previously leaked roadmap showed that the Toronto SoCs will either support DDR3 or DDR4 memory, but now it would appear that they are going to support both thanks to Dual IMCs (Integrated Memory Controller). AMD has previously steered clear of DDR4 memory partly because the Industry hasn’t grown accustomed to it and partly because it costs an arm and a leg. However, they seemed to have reversed that decision. The Opteron platform currently houses the Berlin APU and Toronto is the successor of the same with the next revision of Bulldozer architecture. Both the APU and CPUs will have 4 x86 Excavator cores.

Carrizo was supposed to have DDR4 Memory but this was abandoned (according to latest reports) due to the high cost of the memory in question. So why has AMD decided to give Toronto processors this benefit? Well the reasoning is simple. Even though DDR4 is expensive, the expense only applies to consumer markets. Server markets exist on a very strict cost and value model and only the relative expense per performance increase matters to them. Simply put, the Server Market would be indifferent to the expense that DDR4 entails. Another factor is the fact that DDR4 memory can support higher memory densities while having lower power consumption than DDR3. These two factors are once again something very important for the server markets that operate on a Performance-Per-Watt model. Finally, this would make the Toronto APUs and CPUs future proof for when DDR4 does become cheaper than DDR3 (around 2016). The source is also hopeful that we will be seeing stacked DRAM on the Mobility platform of Carrizo APU as well, something which should have very positive effects on the performance of the next gen APU.
