Nvidia Quadro New Series Lineup Arriving on 12th August – K420, K620, K2200, K4200 and K5200 Confirmed
Our Japanese colleagues over at Hermitage Akihabara have revealed the launch date and the lineup of the new Quadro series. I will not be tagging this one as rumor, since their leaks have been spot on in the past. The new series (so far) will consist of Quadro K420, K620, K2200, K4200 and K5200 and will paper launch on the 12th of this month with SKUs being available soon after. It is unknown how many of the lineup is Maxwell and how much is Kepler, though speculation on the same certainly exists.

Now I know the first thing anyone will ask is, are they Maxwell? Well, the lineup will almost certainly have Maxwell SKUs but it is just as certain that there are going to be Kepler parts as well. What is arguable, is the number of Maxwell Counterparts. Now we did have some previously revealed data on the lineup from driver changelogs andbased on that, we are looking at 2 Maxwells. Both of them are allegedly, GM107 cores. That would also make these Quadros the 750/750Ti’s of the professional world, with the actual Flagship and the equivalent of the Quadro K6000 coming later. Now The 5200 is supposedly based on a Kepler core, which makes it an unsuitable replacement for the K6000. A GM204 Quadro K6000 replacement, would be perfect for Nvidia’s value chain, unless they decide to go with GM200 directly. Here is the lineup leaked thanks to Laptop Video2Go and confirmed by HA:

- NVIDIA Quadro K/M 620 (NVIDIA_DEV.13BB) Speculated GM107 Core
- NVIDIA Quadro K/M 2200 (NVIDIA_DEV.13BA) Speculated GM107 Core
- NVIDIA Quadro K4200 (NVIDIA_DEV.11B4)
- NVIDIA Quadro K5200 (NVIDIA_DEV.103C)
Now interestingly the source mentions doubling of memory, and I am not entirely sure what to make of that. Are we looking at double the memory of the older generation? or what? But since the launch is just a few days away, it is kind of pointless to speculate at this point. However, I would like to pick a bone with Nvidia’s nomenclature. The first alphabet depicts the architecture. So naming a Maxwell card ‘K’xxx/x is absurd, but Nvidia would have trouble switching over to the ‘M’ letter, not without utterly messing up the system. Here is an example, the mobile variants usually have the m suffix, so the technically correct naming of a randomly chosen Maxwell card would be Quadro M2200m but that is semantic redundancy and would be marketing folly. Green can always decide to name the mobile series differently but that would just be a blunder over a blunder. Either way I would be very interested to see how Nvidia names their flagship professional GPU.

New NVIDIA Quadro Show up in Driver Update!
Some pretty interesting information has surfaced in a drivers update at Laptopvideo2go (via Videocardz). Apparently the .inf file to the driver update that contains support for two Maxwell powered Quadro Professional GPUs has been posted, along with a new nomenclature. This means that the video industry will soon be able to utilize the power increase and efficiency offered by the Maxwell architecture and get to enjoy an unfortunate nomenclature.
Nvidia Driver Update Reveals Quadros with Maxwell Cores – Mobility Included
Now the biggest difference between Quadro and your mainstream Nvidia cards is the double precision floating point operation per cycle ratio. For Quadro variants this number is 1. Which means the card can process 1 double precision floating point operation per cycle per core (which is a 1/2 ratio). In sharp contrast a Fermi’s double precision floating point performance (aka FP64) is 1/8th of FP32 ( Single Precision). A Kepler 780′s FP64 performance is 1/16 of FP32 and finally a Maxwell 750′s FP64 is 1/32 of FP32. I am sure you can see a trend here. Basically if you want that sweet 1 to 2 ratio, you are going to have to pay the premium and quite a big one at that. As you can imagine, a Maxwell core inside a professional GPU will make quite a performance jump. VC managed to locate the IDs of the GPUs and alot them to the correct nomenclature:
- NVIDIA_DEV.0FF3 = NVIDIA Quadro K420 (GK107)
- NVIDIA_DEV.13BB = NVIDIA Quadro K620 (GM107)
- NVIDIA_DEV.13BA = NVIDIA Quadro K2200 (GM107)
- NVIDIA_DEV.11B4 = NVIDIA Quadro K4200 (GK104)
- NVIDIA_DEV.103C = NVIDIA Quadro K5200 (GK110)
So we are looking at 2 Desktop and 1 Mobile (K2200M) Professional GPUs with Maxwell Architecture. Both feature the GM107, which is somewhat of a let down because that means we are looking at the first generation Maxwell Architecture as opposed to the second generation. It is also somewhat obvious I guess, because Nvidia would surely want to utilize the first generation architecture in the Professional market as well instead of just skipping it and going against the Profit Motive. That would also make these Maxwell Quadros the 750/750Ti’s of the professional world, with the actual Maxwell Quadro Flagship and the equivalent of the Quadro K6000 coming later.

AMD's FirePro W8100 8GB VRAM GPU
AMD is expanding their latest FirePro series with the new FirePro W8100 series professional graphics card based on the Hawaii GPU architecture. The Hawaii GPU leverages performance of the FirePro graphics cards versus the previous generation which utilized the Tahiti GPU architecture.
AMD Unleashes Hawaii Based FirePro W8100 Professional Graphics Card
The AMD FirePro W8100 is the next generation Hawaii GPU based professional graphics card which features over 4.20 Tera Flops of Single-Precision and 2.10 TFlops of Double-Precision performance. Previously spotted at AMD’s Computex 2014 booth, the FirePro W8100 was confirmed to feature the Hawaii-GL Pro chip which means the card features 2560 Stream processors, 160 TMUs and 64 ROPs compared to its bigger brother the FirePro W9100 which includes the Hawaii-GL XT chip with 2816 Stream processors, 176 TMUs and 64 ROPs.
With 1/2 FP64 rate the card churns out impressive compute performance which enables content creators and professionals to harness the full power of the Hawaii GPU. The core clock for the FirePro W8100 graphics card is maintained at 824 MHz as opposed to 930 MHz on FirePro W9100 and also comes with a lower VRAM of 8 GB versus 16 GB GDDR5 memory on the W9100 clocked at 1250 MHz (5 GHz effective) memory clock churning out 320.0 GB/s memory bandwidth.
The AMD FirePro W8100 is also the second graphics card to standardize 4K resolution for server and professional market by bringing 8 GB of GDDR5 memory to professionals at an affordable price range. Display is provided through 4 display port outputs, the higher memory buffer will allow better content creation and visualization. In a nutshell, the AMD FIrePro W8100 is providing a significant amount of performance to a wide range of content creators and professionals at a lower price and low power consumption then the FirePro W9100.
The performance slides presented at the event showcase several enhancements over the NVIDIA’s Quadro K5000 with much better double precision performance, more display outputs and a higher frame buffer of 8 GB ram compared to 4 GB on NVIDIA’s counterpart.The design of the card is similar to the FirePro W9100 featuring a dual slot heatsink with a backplate that hides the red PCB. Power is delivering through dual 8-Pin connectors while display outputs include four standard Display Port 1.2 ports. The card would be aimed against the NVIDIA’s Quadro K5000 which is the main opponent at the same price range. The card pumps out over 300 GB/s bandwidth and will replace the FirePro W8000 at the same price of $2499 US bringing better performance to a wide range of OpenCL fans and users.
