Microsoft delays Windows 10 launch to ‘late summer – early fall’ of 2015

Microsoft Corp. this week revealed that the launch timeframe of its next-generation Windows 10 operating system had been delayed to “late summer – early fall” of 2015. Previously it was believed that the OS was due in the first half of next year, but due to some reasons the software giant decided to push the release back. The company is still on-track to show off consumer features of Windows early in 2015.
“The thing I want to tell you about on Windows 10 is in the Windows 10 timeframe, which we plan to talk about the end-user consumer experiences in the early spring, we’ll have a developer preview and be able to talk to that in depth in the early summer timeframe,” said Kevin Turner, chief operating officer of Microsoft at the Credit Suisse 18th Annual Technology Conference. “Then by next late summer and early fall we’ll be able to bring out this particular OS. That’s the current plan of record.”
The first rumours about Microsoft’s operating system code-named “Threshold” emerged in late 2013. In early 2014 it transpired that the world’s largest software designer was hard at work to release the new OS as early as in late 2014 in a bid to boost sales of PCs hampered by low popularity of Windows 8. Eventually different sources pointed to the first half of 2015 as the ship target for the next Windows, but it turns out that Microsoft’s new OS will only hit the market in late summer or early fall of 2015, roughly three years after Windows 8.

Based on unofficial information, Microsoft will publicly preview consumer features of Windows 10 at a special event in late January. According to a report by Mary J. Foley, a well-known Microsoft watcher, the software giant will unveil capabilities of Windows 10 for mobile devices, which will work on smartphones as well as tablets powered by ARM or Intel microprocessors. It is expected that Microsoft will show its new code-named “Continuum” touch-based user interface at the event.
Microsoft Windows 10 will power virtually all types of devices that exist today, including desktop and notebook PCs, hybrid 2-in-1 systems, tablets, smartphones and even certain embedded applications. The OS will intelligently tweak its user interface for every device type. Many of “classic” Windows elements are expected to return to Windows 10 versions for desktops and notebooks. The next Microsoft operating system will ship with cross-platform DirectX 12 application programming interface.

Nexus 6 Pricing Australia!!!!

Brace yourself: the Australian Nexus 6 pricing is unlike anything we’ve ever seen before. It’s no longer the “device for everyone”, not unless everyone has almost $1000 to spend on the thing.

More — Gizmodo Nexus 6 Hands-On: So Big, So Beautiful

The Nexus 6 is a monstrous superphone from Google.
The Nexus 6 is basically a super-sized and super-specced Moto X, which Motorola released in September. It comes with a simply massive 5.96-inch 2K screen, a speedy Snapdragon 805 processor, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage (a 64GB version is also available). The device weighs in at about 184g with a 10mm thickness, making it one of the thickest phablets you can buy. That bulk could be due in part to Google continuing the awesome tradition of wireless charging in its devices. The Nexus 6 is powered by a 3220mAh battery, supported by Motorola’s Turbo Charger ability to get 6 hours of battery life after only 15 minutes of charging.
Besides its Kaiju-esque size, the Nexus 6 retains many elements of the Moto X’s design. Google keeps the same dual speaker set up, aluminium chassis and the ring flash on the back. The camera itself is a 13-megapixel sensor (2 megapixel on the front), also like the Moto X, but with optical image stabilisation for better low-light images and HDR+. Samsung’s new Galaxy Note 4 and Apple’s own phablet, the iPhone 6 Plus, also came with this nifty feature, so it seems like a big phone requirement at this point.
So what does all the Nexus-flavoured phablet cost?
Lots.
It comes in two storage variants: 32GB and 64GB. The 32GB model will run you $869, while the 64GB model will cost an eye-watering $929. Phew!
It’s not uncommon for a phone to be close to $1000. The Apple iPhone 6 Plus and Samsung Galaxy Note 4 both flirt with the $1000 barrier depending on the storage variant you choose, with other flagships costing roughly $800 outright.
The reason we’re shocked is because the Nexus range has always been the Android phone for the people: a brilliant alternative to the Samsung, LG and Sony flagships that actually presented some insanely good value.
The Nexus 5 for example was $350 when it went on the market. The phone it was based on — the LG G2 — retailed for almost twice that, so to see the new, 6-inch Nexus phablet retail at the same price as an iPhone is a little jarring.
There’s no word on a shipping date for the device yet, but it’s up on the Play Store now anyway.

Microsoft officially announces Windows 10 for 2015

Microsoft has officially announced its next version of Windows, it’s called Windows 10 and has been “built from the ground up for a mobile first, cloud world”, according to Terry Myerson, Windows Chief.
The new operating system will “unlock new experiences to allow customers to work, play and connect”, it will also run on the “broadest types of devices ever” as a one application platform for one product family, unifying Windows on mobile, tablets and the desktop.
The focus of Microsoft’s announcement then shifted to Enterprise users, stating that Windows 10 will be “familiar for these companies”, and that business users will be compatible with all traditional management systems used today. The company also touted that “Windows 10 is going to be our greatest enterprise platform, ever.”
Windows 10 Microsoft officially announces Windows 10 for 2015
The start menu is officially back for desktop users, Microsoft’s Joe Belfiore said that the company is “looking to find the balance, so that all Windows 7 users get a familiar experience on the devices they already have,” the new start menu is exactly the same as in the leaks, with traditional application icons on one half and metro style pins on the other, combining both Windows 7 and Windows 8 styles. The Metro portion of the start menu is also customizable.
The search bar on the start menu has seen some improvements and will even bring up web results. Metro style apps can now be windowed and will work better with a mouse and keyboard. Users will be able to access both classic and universal apps. Belfiore said that “we don’t want the duality, we want users on PCs with mice and keyboards to have their familiar UI,”
Windows 10 will also feature better multitasking capabilities, allowing users to open up virtual desktop windows and switch between them, much like the ‘expose’ feature on Mac OS X.
The Windows Charm bar is still around and hasn’t been removed, like earlier rumors suggested, although Belfiore admits that he expects aspects of the charms bar to change before the final release.
For those of you that own a two-in-one laptop/tablet, Windows 10 will contain a feature called ‘Continuum’, which will allow you to switch between the traditional mouse and keyboard input method and a newly improved touch UI.
Microsoft is allowing enthusiasts to try out the Technical Preview of Windows 10, starting from tomorrow. This will be a part of the ‘Windows Insider Program’, the consumer version will be talked about a bit more at Microsoft’s build conference next April, the company is currently aiming for a mid 2015 final release.
There is currently no announcements to be made regarding pricing or upgrade deals.

AMD Radeon R9 390X will not hit the market till 2015 – rumour

Although it was expected that Advanced Micro Devices would launch its new single-GPU flagship graphics solution already this year, a new market rumour suggests that the forthcoming Radeon R9 390X graphics card is only due in 2015.
In summer it transpired that AMD had taped out (the point at which a customer sends photomask of a chip to the manufacturer) two graphics processors – a 350mm² chip and a 500mm² chip – that would be manufactured using 28nm HPM [high-performance mobile] process technology at Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Since then AMD has released its Radeon R9 285 graphics cards based on the code-named Tonga GPU (which has ~350mm² die size). However, nothing is clear about the bigger graphics processing unit.
Earlier this month a web-site published a picture of a hybrid liquid cooling system presumably designed for AMD’s new high-end single-chip graphics solution, which is likely to be called AMD Radeon R9 390X.
amd radeon hd 7000 artwork AMD Radeon R9 390X will not hit the market till 2015 – rumour
Typically images of new graphics boards emerge no more than two or three months ahead of a new product launch, when partners of AMD or Nvidia receive samples of the cards. Images of cooling systems can transpire a lot earlier. It should be noted that there are no schedules for unofficial leaks and anything can be published at almost any time.
DigiTimes web-site reports that AMD’s Radeon R9 390X will not emerge on the market until the first half of 2015, a bad news for AMD. If the graphics board is more than three months away, it explains why an unknown partner of AMD could only picture a prototype of its cooling system.
It is expected that AMD’s new flagship graphics processor is based on the GCN 1.2 architecture and is considerably faster than the current-generation Radeon R9 290X “Hawaii” offering. Unfortunately, even the code-name of the new GPU is unclear. Different sources indicate that the new chip is called either “Maui”, “Fiji” or “Iceland.”
AMD did not comment on the news-story.

EVEN more GeForce GTX 980 and GTX 970 cards pictured

Inno3d iChill GTX 980
Earlier today Inno3D posted a new teaser of its iChill GTX 980. This is the fastest GTX980 Inno3D will offer.
If you thought that putting three fans on GM204 board is way too much, then what do you think of four? Quite interesting approach has been revealed by Inno3D. There’s a separate 40mm fan on the site.
At least this card boosts up to 1329 MHz. That’s quite a jump.

Gigabyte GTX 970 and GTX 980 G1 Gaming
At last, you can see the first G1 Gaming cards (both 970 and 980 look the same). G1 Gaming series feature new WindForce cooling. Both cards will be available with a backplate. What’s cool about Gigabyte’s cards is that they offer more display connectors than any other custom 900 series card on the market. Open air cooling solution does not require any perforation on the IO bracket, thus Gigabyte put another DVI there, now there are 3 DisplayPorts, 1 HDMI, 1 DVI-D and 1 DVI-I.

Rather than launching new DirectCU III cooling system, ASUS decided to stick to reference designs and its newest STRIX series. I cannot wait to see GTX 980 MATRIX…

Bonus: MSI GTX 760
I think you should guys know that MSI has also cheaper version of Twin Frozr V cooling being made. This particular card is GTX 760, but since 760  is pretty much the backbone of 970, we should see it under 900 series sooner or later (GTX 960?)

Microsoft Confirms Windows 9 Launch Date 30th September

Microsoft Corp. on Monday began to send invitations to the event where it plans to formally introduce its next-generation Windows 9 operating system. The event will take place in San Francisco, California, on the 30th of September, 2014.
The Verge reports that the event, which will focus on enterprise and power users of Windows, will be hosted by Joe Belfiore and Terry Myerson. It is also expected that Microsoft will deliver public technical preview of its Windows Next shortly after the event.
As previously reported, the Windows 9 “Threshold” is designed for all three major types of devices, such as personal computers, tablets and smartphones. The new operating system will also be Microsoft’s first OS which will be released under the new chief executive officer, Satya Nadella.
microsoft windows 9 invitation Microsoft confirms Windows 9 launch date: 30th of September
It is projected that the Windows 9 OS will include changes designed to improve usability by users who are familiar with Windows XP, Vista and 7. Among other things, Microsoft plans to return the fully-fledged desktop, “Start” menu as well as run apps designed with Metro (Modern) interface in mind in windows. In addition, Windows 9 “Threshold” will support virtual desktops, which will allow users to easily switch between groups of apps and therefore organize their PCs and workflow better. Yet another user interface change with Threshold is elimination of the charms bar, an overlay that currently provides access to search, sharing, the Start screen, hardware devices and settings.
It is expected that Microsoft will launch its Windows 9 commercially in the first half of 2015.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 has 2048 CUDA cores

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 Header
Not 1920, not 2560, but 2048 CUDAs are powering the new flagship card from NVIDIA.
GeForce GTX 980 has 16 Streaming Multiprocessors Maxwell (SMM), which give us 2048 CUDA cores in total. For comparison, GTX 970 has only 13 SMMs (1664 CUDAs), so there’s a 384 CUDA difference between these two cards.
GeForce GTX 980 is advertised as GK104 replacement, it is much more power efficient and much more powerful than first Kepler processor.
We will cover 2nd Generation Maxwell in detail very soon. Maxwell GM204 has some very neat features for gamers.
This post was only meant to confirm there are 2048 CUDAs in 980, hence not the most detailed table below.

Apple introduces iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus smartphones

Just as expected, Apple on Tuesday introduced its new smartphones with enlarged displays and a number of new capabilities. The iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus feature all-new designs and increase the screen sizes to 4.7” and 5.5”, respectively, integrate new application processors, cameras, sensors as well as advanced baseband capabilities. But are iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus revolutionary?
The key improvements of the iPhone 6 smartphones over the iPhone 5s are large 4.7” (1334*750 resolution) and 5.5” (1920*1080 resolution) displays that feature the so-called dual-domain pixel technology that enable higher contrast and improved colour accuracy colours at wider viewing angles. The enlarged screens forced Apple to significantly change the design of their smartphones. The new smartphones are significantly larger, but thinner than predecessors. The iPhone 6 devices feature unibody enclosure of anodized aluminium that conforms seamlessly with the shaped glass of the display, resulting in a smooth and continuous surface, which somewhat resembles designs of the early smartphones from Apple.
apple iphone 6 3 Apple introduces iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus smartphones
Both iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are based on the Apple A8 system-on-chip with M8 motion co-processor that that continuously gathers motion data from the accelerometer, gyroscope, compass and the new barometer, which senses air pressure to provide relative elevation. The A8 SoC is a dual-core application processor with PowerVR graphics core and 1GB of integrated LPDDR3 RAM. According to Apple, the A8 chip has up to 25 per cent faster processing power and up to 50 per cent faster graphics, which may indicate that architecturally the A8 resembles its predecessor (two 64-bit Apple Cyclone general-purpose cores, four-cluster PowerVR G6430 graphics engine, higher clock-rates). The new SoC is believed to be made using 20nm process technology at TSMC and thus is 50 per cent more energy-efficient than its predecessor.
apple iphone 61 1024x902 Apple introduces iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus smartphones
“iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are the biggest advancements in iPhone history,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “The iPhone is the most loved smartphone in the world with the highest customer satisfaction in the industry and we are making it much better in every way. Only Apple can combine the best hardware, software and services at this unprecedented level and we think customers are going to love it.”
In addition to the new display and application processor, the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus sport all-new 8MP iSight cameras (the iPhone 6 Plus even supports optical image stabilization) with brand-new image signal processor to enable higher-quality photos, as well as a new FaceTime HD sensor on the front of the phones.
apple iphone 6 2 669x1024 Apple introduces iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus smartphones
The new smartphones from Apple also support 802.11ac Wi-Fi (up to 433Mb/s), 4G/LTE broadband capabilities with up to 150Mb/s download data-rate (up to 20 LTE bands are supported), voice calls over LTE (VoLTE), Wi-Fi calling, Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC-based Apple Pay system.
iPhone 6 comes in gold, silver or space gray, and will be available in the US for a suggested retail price of $199 for the 16GB model, $299 for the 64GB model and, for the first time, a new 128GB model for $399 with a two-year contract. iPhone 6 Plus comes in gold, silver or space gray, and will be available in the US for a suggested retail price of $299 for the 16GB model, $399 for the 64GB model and $499 for the new 128GB model with a two-year contract. Both models will be available in the U.S., Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore and the U.K. beginning on Friday, 19th of September, customers can pre-order both models beginning on the 12th of September.
apple iphone 6 12 1024x891 Apple introduces iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus smartphones
The launch of Apple’ iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus is a response to already released smartphones by other manufacturers. From this standpoint the new handsets from Apple are barely revolutionary. While Apple added a number of important capabilities to its eighth-generation smartphones, they do not really radically improve user experience with the new iPhones. On the other hand, the new smartphones will clearly appeal to customers of Apple who want to have bigger smartphones with the latest technologies. As a result, Apple will rather easily sell hundreds of millions of iPhone 6 handsets in the coming year.

Moto 360 goes on sale today for £199

Australian prices are yet to come, but hopefully we get them before Christmas.
Motorola has just announced that its highly anticipated Moto 360 smartwatch will go on sale from today for £199 in the UK and $249 in the US. Initially, only two leather strap versions will be available although all metal versions of the device will be coming before December, which will cost $299/£249.
In a slightly disappointing turn, it doesn’t look like Motorola’s ‘Moto Maker’ service can be used here to customize your watch to stand out from the crowd.

Alongside the Moto 360, the company also announced the successor to the Moto X smartphone, which will feature a 5.2 Inch 1080p display and a quad-core 2.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chip, all powering Android 4.4.4 KitKat. The smartphone will go on sale for £419.

Next-Gen GTA V for PC, PS4 and Xbox One Coming in November; Release Date Allegedly Leaked on Newegg

The next-gen port of the record-breaking and all-time most popular open world action-adventure video game, GTA V, is among some of the highly anticipated titles coming out this year. Despite the lack of information and a specific release date for the game, the hype for Rockstar’s blockbuster title is growing bigger, and apparently one of the supporting reasons is the leaked release dates that keep appearing on different online retailer websites. Today, a well-known and reliable computer hardware and software retailer known as Newegg listed next-gen GTA V for PC, PS4 and Xbox One with a release date of November 18, 2014.

Leaked Release Date Suggests Next-Gen GTA V for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One Will Launch in November

Millions of PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One gamers are eagerly waiting to get their hands on the upcoming next-gen version of GTA V, which is Rockstar’s ambitious previous-gen top-selling open world action-adventure video game, but despiteclarifying recently that the game has not been delayed, and it will be released later this year, Rockstar has not announced a specific release date. However, frequent listings and leaks are keeping the hype train on track for now.
Several online computer and video game retailers have been taking pre-order for the upcoming next-gen GTA V for a couple of months now, and some of them even hold a “provisional placeholder” or similar launch date of November. However, a few cases have popped up in the past showing something a little more concrete, and today, one of the most reliable online computer hardware and software retailer, Newegg, also came up with a release date of November 18, 2014 on the pre-order page of GTA V.

iWatch To Cost $800 And Ship In 2015? Reports Offer New Insight On Device

Well looks like things are heating up in iWatch department. Apple is expected to launch the device this September along with the iPhone 6 at Flint Center. Apple’s products are nefarious amongst it’s critics for being grossly overpriced and Apple’s users are often accused of following a ‘brand’ rather than actual performance.
All of these criticisms haven’t stopped it’s products from gaining their fair market share yet new insight on the iWatch’s price might add credibility to these accusations. According to a source straight out of Cupertino, Apple’s iWatch will come in two variants.
The lower end variant of the iWatch could cost around $ 499 and the higher end variant can be expected to have a whooping price tag of $ 799. One can really expect the iWatch to be able cause mass global mayhem with that price. However, Apple just might be aiming towards the luxury high end watch market with such a price in mind.
A price tag of $ 800 is still nothing when comparing to luxury watches out there. Apple does generally target a high end niche with it’s products. A price tag with the $ 400 range has also been cited by another report. Cited by Re/Code, widely known for their accurate industry reports. However Re/Code cautions that the price is not final and was merely discussed amongst a variety of options.

Several Reports Offer New Insight On iWatch Price – 2015 Release Also Mentioned

Apart from the price, looks like consumers anticipating the iWatch might just have to wait for 2015 to get their hands on the device. Another recent report puts the iWatch’s shipping date to early 2015. Reasons for this delay include production problems and software issues. However, announcing products and launching them later is not unprecedented in Apple history.
Production delays with the iWatch include issues with sapphire display production, which according to Ming-Chi of KGI Securities might cause half of Apple’s iWatch supplies to come with glass displays instead. Hopefully we’ll find out more this September when Apple finally launches the much awaited iPhone 6 and the iWatch.

ASUS X99 Deluxe High-End Motherboard Unveiled – Beautiful White and Black Colour Scheme and 5-Way Optimisation

My buddy Kevin Owi from OCDrift.com has just revealed the X99 Deluxe motherboard from ASUS which is going to be the company’s next generation HEDT offering for the Haswell-E platform. ASUS’s X99 Deluxe motherboard comes with their 5-Way Optimization design which includes several new features aimed at the enthusiast users which allows them to get the most performance and stability out of their processors.
ASUS X99 Deluxe Motherboard

ASUS X99 Deluxe High-End Motherboard Features a White and Black Color Scheme

It looks like white and black has become the latest trend for motherboards since there is a huge demand from users for these boards. The ASUS X99 Deluxe comes with just the fine tone of this color scheme with the heat sinks colored white and silver followed by an all black color scheme for the rest of the PCB. The X99 Deluxe will feature a 8 Phase Digi+ VRM design which boasts several quality grade components to ensure superior stability and overclocking performance. The VRM is surrounded by a large heatsink at the back of which, an 8-Pin EPS connector can be found to provide power to the LGA 2011-3 socket. The socket is surrounded by eight DDR4 DIMMs which offer up to 128 GB of memory support with speeds of up to 4 GHz (future DDR4 standard).

For storage, ASUS has featured 10 SATA 6 Gbps and two SATA Express ports on the motherboard along with two USB 3.0 and two USB 2.0 headers. There are a few switches found at the bottom of the PCH heatsink which may be used for BIOS and OC support but we don’t have exact details as of yet. The other round of switches which include the Power On/Off, CMOS Reset, Reset and Diagnostic LED are found below the PCI-E slots. Expansion slots include five PCI-e 3.0 x16 and a single PCI-e 3.0 x 4 slot so we can tell that the motherboard has support for 3-Way SLI and Crossfire GPU functionality. The PCH heatsink is interconnected with a separate heatsink that rests above the top most expansion slot with a thermal heatpipe to dissipate load. ASUS’s X99 offering includes what the call the latest Crystal Sound 2 audio design with the audio section isolated to its own PCB.

The I/O on the motherboard includes 10 USB 3.0 ports, two USB 2.0 ports, two Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports, a 7.1 channel HD-Audio jack, SPDIF and a ASUS CMOS Reset switch. The motherboard also comes with WiFi AC LAN wire less connectivity and the features antenna ports at the I/O panel which is bundled with a ASUS WiFi stand alone transmitter offering 802.11 A/B/G/N connectivity. Its unknown what price the X99 Deluxe would retail it but we expect around the $350 US range. ASUS also has ROG boards and the X99 WS planned for launch at the Haswell-E launch event on 29th August 2014.
