The Moto 360 2 might be coming out early next year

The original Moto 360 smartwatch has only been out for a few months but there is already rumors floating around, suggesting that the next iteration of the product could launch as soon as early next year, presumably during Q1.
According to Lenovo Eastern Europe Vice President, Gleb Mishin, the original Moto 360 will launch in Russia early next year, at the same time as the second generation version. The updated Android Wear smartwatch will feature a “modified design”, the aim is apparently to make the watch look more like a classic watch.

While this Lenovo VP seems to have jumped the gun a bit on Motorola’s future plans, the company probably won’t be announcing anything officially until next year, when we get a bit closer to the potential release window.
The Moto 360 launched back in September alongside the new Moto X and Moto G smartphones. The watch utilizes the Android Wear operating system, which uses a Google Now like interface to show notifications and important information. The watch comes with metal or leather straps and you can customize the watch face in the OS itself.
The closest competitor to the Moto 360 is LG’s G-Watch, which also debuted with Google’s new wearable OS.

Intel promises 10TB+ SSDs thanks to 3D Vertical NAND flash memory

At present solid-state drives with extreme capacities are very expensive and even the best of them cannot match high-capacity hard disk drives for nearline storage applications. However, thanks to the evolution of NAND flash memory in general, and 3D vertical NAND (3D V-NAND) in particular, the situation may change soon and SSDs with 10TB or higher capacities will become reality.
Intel Corp. revealed at its Investor Meeting 2014 event this week that in the second half of 2015 its joint venture with Micron Technology – Intel Micron Flash Technologies (IMFT) – will start mass production of 3D vertical NAND flash memory chips with up to 256Gb (multi-level cell, 2-bit-per cell) or 384Gb (triple-level cell, 3-bit-per cell) capacity. 3D V-NAND flash memory chips will feature 32-layer vertically stacked cell arrays that are “interconnected” using four billion through silicon vias (TSVs).
The upcoming 3D NAND chips from Intel and Micron will enable solid-state drives with capacities simply not possible today. According to Rob Crooke, senior vice president and general manager of Intel’s non-volatile memory group, the 3D NAND will enable 10TB and larger solid-state storage solutions in the next two years.
intel 3dnand 3d v nand flash micron 256kb 1024x443 Intel promises 10TB+ SSDs thanks to 3D Vertical NAND flash memory
In a bid to build 4TB Optimus Max solid-state drive earlier this year, SanDisk had to use 64 extremely expensive 64GB (512Gb) eMLC NAND flash memory packages (which integrate four 128Gb eMLC memory chips into one package) that rely on planar NAND flash and are made using thin process technologies. By contrast, Intel’s 256Gb MLC 3D NAND flash memory chip which can hold up to 32GB of data (384Gb/48GB TLC NAND flash) will be made using a mature (i.e., thicker) process technology (Intel does not disclose which one) and will have a “breakthrough” cost. As a result, multi-terabyte solid-state drives will not only become reality, but will not cost several thousands of pounds per unit.
Mr. Crook used a prototype solid-state drive based on the 32-layer 256Gb MLC NAND flash memory to run his presentation at the Investor Meeting 2014, which means that the technology is viable and products on its base are already functional.
At present Samsung Electronics produces 128Gb 24-layer and 32-layer 3D V-NAND MLC NAND memory chips using 42nm process technology. According to Chipworks, “visible” capacity of the 128Gb MLC 3D V-NAND chips is 86Gb, which means that Samsung remains pretty cautious about its multi-layer MLC NAND memory.
Intel’s 3D NAND memory project seems to be far more ambitious than Samsung’s: it will start at 32 layers and 256Gb capacity, which means that Intel’s chips will be more cost-efficient than those from its rival.
intel ssd enterprise 1 1024x637 Intel promises 10TB+ SSDs thanks to 3D Vertical NAND flash memory
While Intel’s upcoming 3D NAND chips could feature the cheapest cost-per-bit in the industry, its effect on the market of NAND flash-based storage may be limited. IMFT can produce around 70 thousand of 300mm wafers per month, which includes different types of memory, based on data from a ChinaFlashMarket.com report. While Intel and Micron could manufacture their 3D NAND memory at IMFS (80 thousand of 300mm wafers per month) or MTV (40 thousand of 300mm wafers per month) fabs, they will hardly be able to produce volumes comparable to those of Samsung’s. The South Korea-based conglomerate produces 3D V-NAND at its China Xi’an fab that is dedicated to this type of memory and which can process 100 thousand 300mm wafers per month. In addition, Samsung can make 3D V-NAND at other facilities, which total production capacity exceeds 400 thousand 300mm wafers per month.
Although Intel’s 3D NAND may not necessarily revolutionize the market of NAND flash storage in general, it still represents a great opportunity for the company to boost its revenue and SSD market share. Intel NAND and SSD revenue in 2014 is expected to be around $2 billion, thanks to innovations like 256Gb 3D NAND, it will grow further in the coming years.

Be Quiet! Offers Silent Base 800 High-end PC Chassis

Be quiet! introduces its first chassis - the Silent Base 800. This case offers generous space and is firmly aimed at the premium segment - for customers who want high end features in a low noise systems. With its innovative design, be quiet! guarantees silent operation while delivering excellent cooling performance.
True to the motto 'Form Follows Function', each component in the Silent Base 800 fulfils a specific purpose in order to increase user-friendliness and bring performance to a new level.
As usual, be quiet! puts strong emphasis on maintaining low noise level for its Silent Base800, without any reduction in performance. To achieve this goal, be quiet! has developed innovative front, top and bottom panels that provide intelligent airflow. Fresh air is deliberately drawn into the casing and transported through the interior, increasing cooling capacity compared to conventional solutions. At the same the panels prevent the sound waves from exiting the chassis.
To minimise the noise level even further, be quiet! has covered the side panels and front cover of the Silent Base 800 with a brand new anechoic material. In addition, three award winning Pure Wings 2 fans have been installed, decoupled from the housing. Two of them are 140 millimeter format and have been factory installed in the front panel, another pure Wings 2 fan with a 120 millimeter diameter has been placed in the rear. This configuration already provides optimal airflow, but that can be increased further with the installation of up to four additional fans and by opening the 3-in-1 air intakes in the side panels.

Optimum space and tool-free installation
The Silent Base 800 offers more than enough space for high-end systems and associated top-class components. Motherboards in ATX, Micro-ATX or Mini-ITX format, heavy-duty tower coolers with a height up to 17 centimeters and long graphics cards can be installed. For 3D accelerators, up to 40 centimeters of free space is available if you remove one of the pair of modular HDD cages is removed. The Silent Base 800 can also be equipped with up to three 5.25" drives, seven 3.5" and four 2.5" drives. The functional structure of the new be quiet! case allows users to install all components without tools. Silicone inserts decouple the hard drives and power supply from the case. There is also the possibility of installing water-cooling with several radiators in the 120- to 280-millimeter range.

Stability and optimal dust protection
Weighing in at a significant 9 kilograms, it's clear just how substantial the build quality of this be quiet! chassis is. Measuring a solid 495mm x 266mm x 559mm, the housing has been constructed to an industrial standard. Be quiet! achieves this by using thick steel and high-quality ABS plastic. The manufacturer is demonstrating a new and innovative feature in the side panels: the edges are bent in a U-shape and, together with the newly developed insulation material, form an extremely rugged construction. These factors show that besides a fully functional structure and excellent cooling performance, be quiet! also gave serious focus to the build quality of the Silent Base 800. This is underlined by the numerous dust filters, which are factory-installed on all air intakes.

The Silent Base 800 will be available from November 24th in black/orange, completely black as well as black/silver color combinations at a price of 139,90 USD (excluding VAT) or 119 Euro (including VAT). For the UK the MSRP is 99 GBP (including VAT).

Nvidia and AMD launch new drivers for Dragon Age and Far Cry 4

We have two very high-profile releases launching today, Far Cry 4 and Dragon Age Inquisition so to mark the occasion, Nvidia and AMD have launched new graphics drivers to help ensure that gamers can get as much performance as possible on day one.
First up lets talk about AMD’s Catalyst 14.11.2 beta driver. This update promises peak performance in Dragon Age and Far Cry with the latter receiving a 50 per cent performance boost in single GPU scenarios with Anti-Aliasing enabled. Dragon Age on the other hand gets a 5 per cent performance boost under the same conditions. Crossfire support has been added to Dragon Age but unfortunately, Far Cry 4 is having some issues:
“The AMD Crossfire profile for Far Cry 4 is currently disabled in this driver while AMD works with Ubisoft to investigate an issue where AMD Crossfire configurations are not performing as intended. An update is expected on this issue in the near future through an updated game patch or an AMD driver posting.”
daI cover e1416326302160 Nvidia and AMD launch new drivers for Dragon Age and Far Cry 4
Moving on to Nvidia’s 344.75 driver update, which unlike the Catalyst beta, bears Microsoft’s WHQL certification. This driver adds optimizations for Far Cry 4, Dragon Age Inquisition, World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor and even The Crew, which isn’t due out for another couple of weeks.
We don’t know exactly what kind of performance boost this driver will bring to those games but there is an SLI profile for Far Cry 4.

AMD’s Radeon R9 390X ‘Fiji XT’ may feature 4096 SPs, extreme memory bandwidth

Advanced Micro Devices’ next-generation graphics processing unit is still several months away, but it looks like it is worth waiting. According to unofficial information from SiSoft Sandra benchmark’s database, the forthcoming GPU features unprecedented compute horsepower as well as uses multi-layer high-bandwidth memory with extreme bandwidth.
If the listing in Sandra’s database is correct and really describes a prototype of the Radeon R9 390X “Fiji XT” graphics card, the next-generation offering from AMD will feature 4096 stream processors (SPs) (which, in case of the GCN 1.2 architecture, means 64 compute units and 256 texture units) and 4096-bit memory bus. The memory sub-system will rely on SK Hynix’s stacked high bandwidth memory (HBM) chips with 1024-bit input/output interface (compliant with the Wide IO standard).
amd radeon hd 7000 artwork AMDโ€™s Radeon R9 390X โ€˜Fiji XTโ€™ may feature 4096 SPs, extreme memory bandwidth
The graphics card allegedly sports only 4GB of memory since the first-generation HBM features 2Gb DRAM dies and comes in 1GB memory devices, reports Wccftech. Only the second-generation HBM is expected to use 8Gb dies and therefore support 4GB and 8GB configurations.
If AMD’s Radeon R9 390X actually uses four first-generation HBM DRAM chips with 4096-bit memory bus operating at 1.25GHz, then the actual memory bandwidth the graphics card will sport will be whopping 640GB/s.
sk hynix hbm AMDโ€™s Radeon R9 390X โ€˜Fiji XTโ€™ may feature 4096 SPs, extreme memory bandwidth
With 4096 stream processors and amount of bandwidth never before seen on a single-chip graphics cards, the Radeon R9 390X will be the fastest graphics adapter on the market. In fact, with such extreme amount of stream processors, it will clearly leave behind any graphics solution based on Nvidia Corp.’s GM200 graphics processing unit.
sk hynix hbm 1 AMDโ€™s Radeon R9 390X โ€˜Fiji XTโ€™ may feature 4096 SPs, extreme memory bandwidth
While performance-wise the Radeon R9 390X “Fiji XT” seems to be very powerful, it remains to be seen how expensive will it be. New types of memory tend to cost a lot. Moreover, given that memory devices have to be placed on the same piece of substrate with the GPU, the whole graphics card has to be redesigned.

Alleged Geforce GTX ‘Titan X’ Specs and Benches Leak Out – SiSoft Sandra Does it Again

Something pretty interesting popped up on the inter-webs recently. Many forums, from Overclock.net, to Notebookreview.com have started reporting on an enigmatic SiSoft Sandra benchmark that appeared approximately 24 hours back. On casual inspection the bench appears to be a GM200 test run. Needless to say, this is as unreliable as unreliable gets, so please take a good look at the little tag at the top.nvidia_geforce_gtx_titanz_sli

Nvidia’s next generation GM200 GPU allegedly rocks 3072 CUDA cores and upto 1.2Ghz boost clock

Before we begin, let me make something clear, I do not know what the GM200 GPU will be called. It could be the GTX 980 Ti, It could be Titan II/X or any other variation thereof. It should be pretty clear that the name I have used above is just a placeholder since I can’t really keep on calling it ‘the-GPU-with-GM200-inside’. Basically, this particular leak stems from SiSoft Sandra’s benchmark database (something on which I will be keeping a close eye from now on) just like the massive AMD Carrizo Leak a few days back. Whoever, conducted the bench made sure to hide most of the ID Codes and identifying information but some specs and the Nvidia logo were left out, perhaps deliberately. It also raises the question whether the results are spoofed. Usually faking synthetic benchmarks is near impossible, but I have no personal experience with SiSoft so I won’t comment further.GM200 3072 CUDA Cores
If the benchmark is truly of the next Maxwell Flagship, then we are looking at a CUDA Core count of 3072 in 24 SMMs. Since there are 24 Streaming Maxwell Processors and each SMM has 8 TMUs to it, I can further deduce that this card has 192 TMUs.  You can expect 96 ROPs to go along with it. A slightly odd number, but nothing to really set alarm bells ringing. It features 3MB of L2 cache, 384 bit bus width and perhaps most surprisingly, 12GB vRam coupled with a low 6GHZ frequency. As forum members have pointed out, this is usually indicative of a professional GPU. The GPU does feature the trademark high clocks of the Maxwell architecture, which are well above the 1.1Ghz mark when boosting but has a suspiciously large amount of video buffer and a surprisingly low memory clock as I mentioned before. Unless Nvidia is planning to market an 8K Ready Geforce (with an absolutely killer price tag) this is almost certainly a professional GPU, that is, if this leak is legit. Ofcourse, this doesn’t really matter to us, since the chip remains the same, regardless of the branding. That’s all and looks like the new GPU leak season is starting again folks, so stay tuned.

Nexus 6 Pricing Australia!!!!

Brace yourself: the Australian Nexus 6 pricing is unlike anything we’ve ever seen before. It’s no longer the “device for everyone”, not unless everyone has almost $1000 to spend on the thing.

More — Gizmodo Nexus 6 Hands-On: So Big, So Beautiful

The Nexus 6 is a monstrous superphone from Google.
The Nexus 6 is basically a super-sized and super-specced Moto X, which Motorola released in September. It comes with a simply massive 5.96-inch 2K screen, a speedy Snapdragon 805 processor, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage (a 64GB version is also available). The device weighs in at about 184g with a 10mm thickness, making it one of the thickest phablets you can buy. That bulk could be due in part to Google continuing the awesome tradition of wireless charging in its devices. The Nexus 6 is powered by a 3220mAh battery, supported by Motorola’s Turbo Charger ability to get 6 hours of battery life after only 15 minutes of charging.
Besides its Kaiju-esque size, the Nexus 6 retains many elements of the Moto X’s design. Google keeps the same dual speaker set up, aluminium chassis and the ring flash on the back. The camera itself is a 13-megapixel sensor (2 megapixel on the front), also like the Moto X, but with optical image stabilisation for better low-light images and HDR+. Samsung’s new Galaxy Note 4 and Apple’s own phablet, the iPhone 6 Plus, also came with this nifty feature, so it seems like a big phone requirement at this point.
So what does all the Nexus-flavoured phablet cost?
Lots.
It comes in two storage variants: 32GB and 64GB. The 32GB model will run you $869, while the 64GB model will cost an eye-watering $929. Phew!
It’s not uncommon for a phone to be close to $1000. The Apple iPhone 6 Plus and Samsung Galaxy Note 4 both flirt with the $1000 barrier depending on the storage variant you choose, with other flagships costing roughly $800 outright.
The reason we’re shocked is because the Nexus range has always been the Android phone for the people: a brilliant alternative to the Samsung, LG and Sony flagships that actually presented some insanely good value.
The Nexus 5 for example was $350 when it went on the market. The phone it was based on — the LG G2 — retailed for almost twice that, so to see the new, 6-inch Nexus phablet retail at the same price as an iPhone is a little jarring.
There’s no word on a shipping date for the device yet, but it’s up on the Play Store now anyway.

Highly anticipated Ubisoft games return to Steam

Ubisoft and Valve Software have returned three of Ubisoft’s soon-to-be bestsellers to Steam online store on Saturday after they were removedfrom the system on Thursday and Friday. Neither Ubisoft, nor Valve have made any official statements on the matter.
Assassin’s Creed UnityFar Cry 4, and The Crew – the titles that are expected to become massively popular this holiday season – are available from Steam digital distribution service worldwide (update: except the U.K. at press time) again. Assassin’s Creed Unity and Far Cry 4are also available from Electronic Arts’ Origin service as well. All three titles can also be purchased using Uplay system and Ubisoft’s online store.

The reasons why the three games were removed from Steam earlier this week remain completely unclear. In fact, it is even unknown whether Ubisoft pulled them out, or Valve Software kicked them off the platform because of something.
According to media reports, those, who have pre-ordered Assassin’s Creed UnityFar Cry 4 or The Crew from Steam will get their games, just as expected.
Gamers can get one of the three titles for free with the purchase of an Nvidia GeForce GTX-series graphics card that is a part of the company’s “Pick Your Path” promotion.

These are the rumored Far Cry 4 PC system requirements

The Far Cry 4 PC system requirements have supposedly been spotted and unsurprisingly, they are fairly similar to that of Assassin’s Creed Unity, which recommended that all players have at least an Nvidia GTX 680 graphics card or better. However, while GPU requirements remain fairly high, CPU requirements have been scaled back a bit.
To start off with, Far Cry 4 will take up 30GB of hard drive space, which is a bit less than the upcoming Assassin’s Creed. A 64-bit OS is still required and the minimum specification requires that you have at least 4GB of RAM. The minimum CPU requirement includes an Intel Core i5-750 or an AMD Phenom II X4 995 and for graphics power you’ll need at least a GTX 460 or an AMD Radeon HD5850.

The recommended requirements include 8GB of RAM, an Intel Core i5 2400S CPU or AMD’s FX-8350. Just like with Assassin’s Creed Unity, Ubisoft recommends at least a GTX 680 with 2GB of VRAM but the company doesn’t seem to be spending much time testing AMD cards as the recommended Nvidia equivalent is the top of the line R9 290X, which is a much more powerful card.
It seems like the AMD GPU specification should be a mistake, it will likely be corrected to a Radeon 7970, which would bring it back in line with Assassin’s Creed.

Lian Li PC-D666 Unleashed Hell

Hey, I didn't make it up, it is literally in the press-release. Lian-Li Industrial Co. Ltd, today unleashes a hellish beast onto the enthusiast PC market with the dual system PC-D666 double wide brushed aluminum chassis.
With a red and black aesthetic to match the number of the beast name, the PC-D666 supports a full EATX/ATX "workhorse" system on one side of the chassis, and a Micro-ATX/Mini-ITX "gaming" system in the other. Separating the two systems into two compartments, the PC-D666 allows DIY enthusiasts to show off high end and intricate setups through oversized windows on both sides of the chassis. The latest high-end hardware is supported in the PC-D666 as well as extensive watercooling setups.
Extensive Water Cooling Support
With tons of room to work with, installing elaborate water cooling setups is simplified in the PC-D666. Thick 480mm and 360mm radiators can be easily installed on the "workhorse" side of the chassis, while another 360mm radiator can be installed in the "gaming" system compartment.

100mm of space above the motherboard tray allows the CPU cooler, cables, or radiator to be effortlessly moved between the compartments.

Hot-Swappable Storage
The six 3.5" bays in the two removable HDD cages feature hot-swap backplanes for convenient storage installation. Four 2.5" drives can also be mounted in the two hard drive cages. In the "workhorse" compartment two more 2.5" drives can be tool-lessly mounted on the case floor.

Tool-Less Installations and Features
The PC-D666 has many tool-less features allowing for simple setups and installations.. This fully aluminum case features pop-off side panels and front bezel, tool-less mounting for hard drives as well as clip-in dust filters.

The entire HDD rack on the right side of the case can be pulled out of the case with the removal of a few thumbscrews.

Versatile Cable Management
With oversized windows on both sides of the chassis, thumb-screw secured removable panels were engineered to easily hide the cables and wires, while still providing easy access to both sides of the chassis thanks to large grommeted cutouts.

Connectivity
Both sides of the chassis have four USB 3.0 ports and HD audio connections on the top of the chassis for their respective systems.

Developed in Cooperation with PC Welt
The PC- D666 was developed in cooperation with IDG's PC Welt (PC World) German edition for the "Hell Machine 6" ultimate dual-system PC project.
