ASRock X99 Extreme 4 and FATAL1TY X99 Killer Motherboards

During a presentation held in Taiwan, motherboard manufacturer ASRock unveiled their latest HEDT X99 chipset motherboards which include the X99 Extreme 6, X99 Extreme 4 and X99 Killer. XFastest was able to grab shots of these new motherboards which we saw back at Computex where they were displayed in engineering state, while now they have been updated with the final heatsink designs and layout for Intel’s upcoming Haswell-E CPU lineup.ASRock LGA 2011-3 Socket

ASRock’s High-Performance X99 Extreme 6, X99 Extreme 4 and X99 Killer Motherboards

ASRock has showed three high-end desktop motherboard based on the X99 chipset which include the ASRock X99 Extreme 6 and X99 Extreme 4 which were seen back at Computex 2014 and a new addition to the lineup, the X99 Killer which is more of a gaming oriented and feature packed offering. Each motherboard supports its own set of features for overclocking and the latest LGA 2011-3 socket to support Haswell-E processors which will be shipping in the month of September in retail. The latest X99 Express chipset features featuring 14 USB ports (6 USB 3.0 and 8 USB 2.0), 10 SATA 6GBps ports, integrated clock support, 8×1 PCIe 2.0, Clarksville GbE PHY and the Realtek Audio Codec. The chip has a max TDP of 6.5W and measures 23x22mm which is larger than the X79 chipset. The platform would also be the first to support DDR4 memory.

The ASRock X99 Extreme 6 would be a high-end offering from the company in the X99 product lineup. The board will fall below the X99 Extreme 9 that would be offered later. Last time we saw this board, it was bare of all heatsinks but ASRock has now showcased an updated version of the board which uses a heatsink set similar to ASRock’s Z97 motherboard lineup. The main VRM heatsink has two blocks colored blue with an X99 logo engraved on the top section. The other section of the heatsink that is interconnected via heatpipe cools the area behind the I/O connectors. The PCH is covered by a large ASRock heatsink.

From a technical perspective, the motherboard features a 12 Phase high-quality Super Alloy Power design. The CPU socket is powered with a single 8-Pin connector and the 24-Pin ATX power connector. Being a enthusiast and overclocking design, the motherboard comes in the ATX form factor featuring 50G Aluminum Alloy heatsinks that will be included on the final design, Premium Alloy Chokes, Dual-Stack MOSFETs, Japanese made high-quality conductive polymer capacitors and support for the latest and greatest Haswell-E processors. There are eight DDR4 DIMM slots, four on each side of the socket which can support up to 64 GB of Quad Channel memory with speeds of up to 2800 MHz (O.C+).

Expansion slots include three PCI-e 3.0 x16, two PCI-e 3.0 x1 slots. The expansion slots are all 15u gold contact in VGA PCIe slots and feature support for 3-Way AMD CrossFireX and 3-Way NVIDIA SLI. There’s also the Ultra M.2 slot and a mPCI-e slot along with a PEG and 4-Pin Molex connector which adds additional power to the PCI-e expansion lanes while using several cards. Storage connectors include 10 SATA 6 GB/s and a single SATA Express connectors followed by two USB 3.0 headers. OC switches and Diagnostic LED are located just below the X99 PCH. The motherboard comes with the Purity Sound 2 design which offers a 7.1 channel HD Audio jack powered by AL1150 codec and DTS Connect.
I/O on the ASRock X99 Extreme 6 motherboard includes 1 eSATA, 10 USB 3.0 (4 Front, 6 Read), 7 USB 2.0 (4 Front, 2 Dock, 1 Vertical Type A), 1 COM Port Header, 1 Thunderbolt AC connector, Intel Gigabit Ethernet LAN, ASRock HDD Server Technology, ASRock Cloud and Full HD UEFI.

The ASRock X99 Extreme 4 would also be a high-end offering from the company in the X99 product lineup. The board will fall below the X99 Extreme 6 which is detailed above. The ASRock X99 Extreme 4 was shown without heatsinks but it is clear that the layout would be similar to the blue/black theme featured on the Extreme 6.
