Nvidia GTX 790 and 750Ti

Nvidia already owns the single-GPU performance crown, having plucked it back from the competition with the release of the GeForce GTX 780 Ti graphics card two months ago after AMD snatched it from atop the GeForce GTX Titan’shead. Now that it’s back where Nvidia feels it rightfully belongs, the GPU maker has no plans of letting it go any time soon and will defend its crown with the upcoming launch of the GeForce GTX Titan Black Edition and dual-GPU GeForce GTX 790 video cards.

According to VideoCardz, the updated Titan will flex the same GPU as the GTX 780 Ti but with higher double precision computing performance (more FP64 CUDA cores). It will also have 6GB of onboard GDDR5 memory, which is twice as much as the GTX 780 Ti, 2,880 CUDA cores, 240 TMUs, and 48 ROPs. No word on exactly when it will be released, just that it’s likely coming sometime next month and is expected to cost around $1,000 MSRP.

The Titan Black Edition won’t replace the GTX 780 Ti in performance, which is still the preferred card among gamers because of its price tag (it’s several hundred dollars less than a Titan). However, those looking for a dual-GPU card will get their wish in March with the launch of the GTX 790.

VideoCardz warns that it wasn’t able to verify the specs but believes it will ship with two 28nm GK110 GPus, two 2,496 CUDA-packed processors for 4,992 total, 416 total TMUs, 80 total ROPs, and 10GB of GDDR5 on a 320-bit bus. This one is also expected to retail for $1,000.

AMD's R9 290X

Over the past month the R9 290X's has had its release of the aftermarket cooling cards from each brand. This is certainly a refresh as the reference card was loud and hot. My way of tackling that issues was pull the card apart and liquid cool it.

For those who are to scared to water cool you can now have peace of mind and purchase an incredible graphics card, with amazing performance for the price.

Although we have seen a price hike since Bit-coin Mining become popular, the cards should start to go down the the price they should be.

Water Cooling made Simple

At CES 2014 Corsair revealed a few little goodies and this is one of them. The Corsair Hydro Series H105 Liquid CPU Cooler.

This is a slightly nicer looking variant to the Corsair H100i. The Corsair Hydro Series H105 provides extreme CPU cooling performance. The 240mm top-mounted high-capacity radiator is paired with high-performance SP120L fans for powerful heat dissipation you need for highly overclocked CPUs. And, PWM fan speed fan control lets you select the precise level of cooling power you need.

This is a great component to add to your new system.

LG Flex Pre Orders Australia

After a successful showing at CES, where it was launched for US Carriers, LG has just announced that the LG G Flex – the phone with the flexible curved screen and ‘Self Healing’ coating on the rear – will indeed be coming to Australian shores, but won’t be available through a carrier, instead it will be offered exclusively to customers through retailer Harvey Norman.

Starting, with pre-sales online today and coming to stores in February, the G Flex will be launching in ‘Titan Silver’ with a retail price of $999, making it slightly more higher end price wise than your average handset. While not subsidised by carriers, Harvey Norman will be offering a bonus to tempt customers into outlaying the $999 to purchase the phone – a $200 Harvey Norman gift voucher – if they are willing to sign up to an Optus ‘My Plan’ in the month of February.

Hardware wise the phone comes with the remarkable 6″ HD P-OLED(Polymer based OLED screen), which is not only curved, but flexible as well making it a very hardy device when it comes to those moments when the screen needs to flex. According to LG, the curve also brings the microphone in the phone closer to the users mouth. Adding to the overall durability is the remarkable ‘Self-Healing’ coating that’s been applied to the rear of the phone that will protect the phone from the every day scratches that normally mar your average smart phone.

AMD's New Chips

AMD has some new chips on the way for 2014, these little beauties seem to be a big improvement and really catching up to Intel. This is great news for the PC community and especially AMD fans.

A decade ago, AMD brought us the first dual-core x86 processor. Then, starting in 2008, the company came out with tri-core and quad-core designs in quick succession, leading up to octa-core chips in 2011's FX range as well as in the latest AMD-powered game consoles. Today, we're looking at a fresh leap forward, albeit one that will take a bit of explaining: a desktop and laptop chip called Kaveri, which brings together up to four CPU cores and eight GPU cores and gives them unheard-of levels of computing independence, such that AMD feels justified in describing them collectively as a dozen "compute cores."

Marketing nonsense? Not necessarily. AMD is at least being transparent in its thinking, and besides, if you've been following our coverage of the company's HSA project, and of GPU compute in general, then you'll know that there's some genuine technology underpinning the idea of GPU cores being used for more than just 3D rendering. Nevertheless, even if you don't go for the whole 12-core thing, AMD still makes some down-to-earth promises about Kaveri's price and performance -- for example, that it matches up to Intel chips that cost a lot more (the top Kaveri desktop variant costs just $173, compared to $242 for a Haswell Core i5), and that it can play the latest games at 30fps without the need for a discrete graphics card. These are claims that can -- and will -- be put to the test.

The Best Graphics Card 2014

Having the best of the best is sometimes not needed in your build so here is a little list of the best Graphics Cards for 2014.

I wanted to start at the low end first, if your looking for an awesome graphics card that will really give you excellent results for its price you would be looking at the NVIDIA Gigabyte GTX 760 2GB.
This card is great especially if this is for your basic home use and some casual Photoshop and Illustrator needs, this card will also make for a great gaming card as well you wont exactly be able to play in the best quality but it will still look better than the current gen consoles. This is a must have card for any build and is relatively cheap.

This next card is the best value card you can get, it is essentially a AMD 7970 just updated into an AMD R9 280X 3GB Graphics card. with a base clock of 1050MHz and a boost clock of 1100MHz nyou will be flying through anything you need  this card is perfect for heavy users and will be light on you're pocket. This card works naively in OS X Mavericks and looks great when installed in a system. I usually do not suggest AMD cards but how could any one resist when these cards are just such good value for money.

The Next card i suggest is the GTX 780 due to its simple install and hassle free drivers. I would like to put the GTX Titan and the 780 Ti but i have yet to run a full test on the stability of these cards, The GTX 780 will more than get the job done this NVIDIA card will destroy anything you put to it, supporting up to 4 monitors and support for 4K what more could you need. When it comes down to it these three have been my favorite and will remain that until, the R9 290x is supported in OS X Mavericks.

Beasty Little Bitfenix Colossus Mini ITX and M ATX

The New little Bitfenix Colossus is just around the corner, I have personally been looking forward to this build its a perfect size and will look stunning on your desk.

This case seems like a beefed up Phenom case but with a little more style, I look forward to doing some builds in this case soon.

Bitfenix have really done a good job again on making a small case that has room to support custom water cooling and plenty of storage space.  Coming in both Mini ITX and Micro ATX this case is going to be perfect and would look amazing as a steam machine.

Water Cooling

Today is an incredible hot day in Melbourne so I thought I would put up some information on how to tackle the heat in your build. I offer custom Water cooled loops at reasonable prices if you think your PC is running too hot have a look at your temps using CPUID HWMonitor its a simple way to see the PCs temps and get an idea on how it is running under the stress of the hot weather we are having.

Although custom water cooled loops are expensive it is worth keeping your valuables running cold you really do not want any of your parts to burn out. The positives about running  water cooling are that it looks totally awesome, keeps your system cool, quiet, effective and higher overclocks.

Other options are running  closed looped CPU coolers and the NZXT GPU cooler as well, these things are great and less of a handful to deal with and at a lower cost.

3 Great Keyboards 2014

Today I feel like showing some keyboards that I personally like to use and enjoy the look of.

The first keyboard of course is Apples own Keyboard, if you haven't had the chance to use one I'm sure one day you will. I personally find it to be very appealing on the eye.  But when it comes to the use i find it not to be as good as the rest, for me i find that the keys are not the best to type on and the size just seems to be to small. If I'm just using it for basic everyday use its fine, but if it comes to writing an essay I will switch out keyboards.

The second keyboard is a cheap one by Rapoo, these keyboards are slim and are very similar to apples but a cheaper version. They are well constructed considering there price. I use mine daily for my secondary build. On the plus side there is a track pad on the side and when it works it works well but its still a bit sketchy.
There is a new one coming out in 2014 and the build quality looks to be better and has a few more improvements such as a special wireless charger on the top half. With an illuminated keypad it looks like it will be an impressive update. Check out the rest of there keyboards over at www.rapoo.com definitely worth looking into as there as great substitute.

My third choice of keyboards would be from Corsair over at CES 2014 they announced a new mechanical keyboards using MX RGB a multicoloured customization LEDs, we will most likely see this implemented into boards like the K70, K90 or K95 obviously they might change the name. I currently use the K70 and it is an amazing board mechanical keys are definitely the best thing to type on, it's that classic click and the speed that you can type at. Head over to www.corsair.com and see there new line-up for 2014 there are some amazing cases on the way.

Best Design Case 2014 In Win 904

There is an incredible case coming the In Win 904 Mid Tower Case. This case just says it all it look amazing and will definitely have heads turning. This case also has an ITX version the In Win 901 which was just revealed at CES 2014. These cases are definitely not going to be cheap but if you want a good looking case this its it. With brushed aluminum and tempered glass it really looks better than the trash can design of the Mac Pro 2014.

The 904 supports ATX and Micro ATX boards,  At $462 its possibly worth getting the Corsair 900d for its size. personally I think my next  purchase will be the In Win 904 purely for the reason that it looks good, please  contact me if your interested in this case.

Absolute Budget Build

I thought I would put some parts together for the budget of budget builds, This is basically as cheap as you can go before sacrificing too much on performance. The case used for this is the Aerocool Dead Silence DS which comes in some pretty nice colours: Orange, Red, Champagne, White/Black, All White and all Black.

It's a simple case and does the job perfectly, leaving plenty of room for upgrades. Within the case is just the essentials- i5 4770 Intel CPU, 8GB Ram, 250GB SSD, Gigabyte Motherboard and 500w PSU. It really is just the essentials and could double up as a steam box if the Graphics Card is upgraded.

This all comes together at $895.00 AU which is the tower only. It may be a budget build but it's still a little power house and will perform amazingly.

Kogan to Release 4K TV Australia

Over at CES was revealed the Kogan would  be selling a $999 4K TV, as we all know Kogan can sometimes be a hit and miss. After seeing one of Kogan's 50 Inch 100Hz Led TV, I'd like to think that they have improved on their quality.
As it stated from the guys over at Engadet, the 4K will be running Android 4.2.2 and have the option to purchase a controller for a further $40. The release date is set to be Late January and I will most likely throw my wallet at it and give it a try as a Monitor for my computer.

Thanks to engadget for the photos

Hackintosh and Geekbench Scores

Today i've been testing out my recently built Hackintosh Pro and running some tests on it. Today is GeekBenches chance to run some tests over my system. At the moment it has got a 3930k, 16GB 2133MHz Ram, 128GB SSD and GTX 670 2GB.

These parts are currently in the process of an upgrade as this was built out of spare parts. Within the following weeks i will be adding a GTX 780 Ti, 32GB 2133MHz ram and a 256GB PCI-E SSD.

At the moment the build is running incredible and has not had a hiccup at all. All up this build was fairly cheap to build and completely worth it. Working in Photoshop is incredibly fast with little to no rendering time for large files.

More updates will be added in the coming weeks. Thanks for reading.

My Sweet Little Mac Pro Triple Monitor

This is my awesome Hackintosh, using the i7 3930K overclocked at 4.5GHz, 16GB Corsair Dominator GT 2133MHz, Gigabyte GTX 670 2GB, Gigabyte GA-X79-UP4 motherboard, Corsair RM1000 PSU and watercooled by XSPC.
For this article i thought it would be nice to show it running on three monitors which it does with out a hassle at all. This is a high end Graphics/Gaming build running both Windows 8.1 and Mavericks. When Gaming in Windows this build uses the Gigabyte R9 290x GPU which is watercooled and amazing.

I simply used the Gigabyte GTX 670 because it just works and its a great graphics card and especially when you are on a budget. The case is a NZXT Phantom 820 which I love its huge and looks great, this case comes in Gunmetal Silver, Black and White.
If you want a build like this please contact me as this thing will knock your socks off.
