Sony's Xperia Z2

Sony unveiled there flagship phone the Xperia Z2 which is a sweet refresh of the Z1, these phones are amazing and water proof which is a big win for me. Under the hoof of this device we can see some of the upgrades you expect a New Triluminos Full HD (IPS) display which seems to be a big improvement on the Z1. There is jammed under the hood is a Snapdragon 801 @ 2.3GHz, Adreno 330, 3GB Ram and all the WiFi and connectivity needs. All the devices seem to be pumping these upgrades if you have been keeping track. there is a  huge 20.7 Mega Pixel Camera which can shoot 4k video at 30fps which is pretty incredible for mobile device.
This is a powerhouse device and looks very promising we will just have to wait until the phone washes up on the shores of Australia.

The New Samsung Galaxy S5

Over at MWC 2014 there is an onslaught of new devices coming out on the market, this device the Samsung Galaxy S5 is one that I have been keeping my eye on. From what you can see it still keeps the same design as the S4 on the front of the device but as you turn the phone around you will notice a poly-carbonate leather like texture on the back similar to the Galaxy Note 3 which is something you either like or not.

The new things apart from all the gimmicky stuff revolves around whats on the inside of the device. Obviously we have an upgraded CPU to the Snapdragon  800 @ 2.5GHz, Adreno 330 GPU, 2GB Ram, a 2,800mAH Battery and all the fastest WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity you will expect.

One of the great new thing on this S5 is that is is dust resistant and water resistant IP67. This is something that in my opinion be on every device, but dont get too excited it is not as good as the Sony Xperia Z series, but close enough.

Samsung is boosting its S-Health applications as it seems to be all the range now a days. There is a heart rate sensor on the back, which offers a real life fitness coverage. Another sweet little upgrade is the Camera this is personally my favorite thing on the Galaxy series phones. The camera is a 16 Mega pixel shooter and will capture anything you want.

With all this fitness and S-Health stuff Samsung created a device to monitor you more the Samsung Gear Fit, which at first glance seems like the new Galaxy Gear 2/Neo smartwatches. More will be typed up on them soon.

All we need to know now is when I can get my grubby hands on to the device in Australia, as stated at MWC 2014 the device will be released on April 11th in 150 countries. Which I am hoping that Australia is one of them.

New GPU's GTX 750, 750 Ti and GTX Titan

Finally we have a New Titan on the market the GTX Titan Black, this card will definitely live up to its name. All we have to do now is wait until it hits Australia shore. Below is a benchmark and a write up from NVIDI.

When we launched GTX TITAN almost a year ago, it kickstarted the personal supercomputing revolution.Based on the same Kepler technology that powered Oak Ridge National Laboratory’s TITAN supercomputer, GTX TITAN was a beast. With extreme performance for gamers, double precision for CUDA developers, and a supercomputer-inspired design, GTX TITAN quickly became the GPU every gamer wanted to own. But that was so 2013. Today, we’re introducing the all-new 2014 version—TITAN BLACK. Featuring the same full GK110B chip configuration found in the GTX 780 Ti, TITAN BLACK delivers a staggering 5.1 Teraflops of computing performance per card. Double down by sliding two GTX Titans into your PC and you can take advantage of a total of 5,760 cores for even more performance.. Each TITAN BLACK also supports up to four displays per card—two DVI, one HDMI and one DisplayPort—perfect for large scale displays or multi-monitor configurations. Like the original, this new behemoth features a design that evokes the spirit of a supercomputer and the enormous capability within. If you’re looking for a guaranteed win, bet on black. TITAN BLACK, available today for $999us.

The GTX 750 and GTX 750Ti is an awesome little card for its price it is something I would stick in my media steam box/media centre. It will be interesting to see if the new maxwell GPU will work with Hackintosh, this will be tested as soon as I can get my hands on one.

Intel Readying 15-core Xeon E7 v2

Reports from ISSCC are coming out that Intel is preparing to launch a 15-core Xeon CPU.  The 15-core model was postulated before Ivy Bridge-E launch, along with 12-core and 10-core models – the latter two are currently on the market but Intel was rather silent on the 15-core SKU, presumably because it harder to manufacturer one with the right voltage characteristics.  Releasing a 15-core SKU is a little odd, and one would assume is most likely a 16-core model with one of the cores disabled – based on Intel’s history I doubt this core will be able to be re-enabled should the silicon still work. I just received the official documents and the 15 core SKU is natively 15-core.
Information from the original source on the top end CPU is as follows:
  •  4.31 billion transistors
  •  Will be in the Xeon E7 line-up, suited for 4P/8P systems (8 * 15 * 2 = 240 threads potential)
  •  2.8 GHz Turbo Frequency (though the design will scale to 3.8 GHz)
  •  150W TDP
  •  40 PCIe lanes
Judging by the available information, it would seem that Intel are preparing a stack of ‘Ivytown’ processors along this design, and thus a range of Xeon E7 processors, from 1.4 GHz to 3.8 GHz, drawing between 40W and 150W, similar to the Xeon E5 v2 range.
Predictions have Ivytown to be announced next week, with these details being part of the ISSCC conference talks.  In comparison to some of the other Xeon CPUs available, as well as the last generation:

According to CPU-World, there are 8 members of the Xeon E7-8xxx v2 range planned, from 6 to 15 cores and 105W to 155W, along with some E7-4xxx v2 also featuring 15 core models, with 2.8 GHz being the top 15-core model speed at 155W.
All this is tentative until Intel makes a formal announcement, but there is clearly room at the high end.  The tradeoff is always between core density and frequency, with the higher frequency models having lower core counts in order to offset power usage.  If we get more information from ISSCC we will let you know.
Original Source: PCWorld
Update: Now I have time to study the document supplied by Intel for ISSCC, we can confirm the 15-core model with 37.5 MB L3 cache, using 22nm Hi-K metal-gate tri-gate 22nm CMOS with 9 metal layers.  All the Ivytown processors will be harvested from a single die:
Ivytown Die Shot
The design itself is capable of 40W to 150W, with 1.4 GHz to 3.8 GHz speeds capable.  The L3 cache has 15x 2.5MB slices, and data arrays use 0.108µmcells with in-line double-error-correction and triple-error-detection (DECTED) with variable latency.  The CPU uses three clock domains as well as five voltage domains:
Level shifters are placed between the voltage domains, and the design uses lower-leakage transistors in non-timing-critical paths, acheving 63% use in the cors and 90% in non-core area.  Overall, leakage is ~22% of the total power.
The CPUs are indeed LGA2011 (the shift from Westmere-EX, skipping over Sandy Bridge, should make it seem more plausible), and come in a 52.5x51.0mm package with four DDR3 channels.  That would make the package 2677 mm2, similar to known Ivy Bridge-E Xeon CPUs.
CPU-World's list of Xeon E7 v2 processors come from, inter aliathis non-Intel document, listing the 105W+ models.

NZXT H440

The NZXT H440 is on its way and its coming in two colour options, Black and Red, White and Black. These cases are great and I thought I would do an update as they are about to hit Australian shore lines. If you are looking for a clean and stunning build and want something that looks amazing this is the case. NZXT's build quality is top notch and really is something to appreciate. We can see in this build that it has opted for hiding the PSU which hides all those ugly cables hanging out of the back.

As soon as they hit I will be building an Mid ranged water cooled Hackintosh to show off it size and performance. The case is priced at $158AU and is worth every cent. Those of you who are interested in a complete build please contact RDT for a FREE quote.

Please don't hesitate to ask any questions, your business will be greatly appreciated. If you want to get in contact please call Robertson Design Technology Melbourne

Flappy Birds is OUT, Whats in it's Place??

Flappy Birds is simple game that some how went viral and amazingly well, I personally found it a bit boring but still felt the need to play it. Now that the developer has taken it down there is a swarm of clones jumping up in its place one that some might find a little fun is Fall Out Bird It will give you exactly what you need.

But if you are like me and simply do not like Fall Out Boy, Try Ironpants this game is harder than Flappy Birds and is incredibly frustrating hence making it better I guess? still these games I only play when I am in transit or incredibly bored and with out a PC. Let me know what you think.

South Park: The Stick of Truth

After a bumpy start The New South Park game is on schedule for the 5th March release date on Steam, this is exciting new for those of you who love the south park game way back 1998. It was said by Trey Paker and Matt Stone “I hope we don't get a fucking four onGamespot, that's what I hope.” They have really put some effort in to this game and I must say I am very excited to get playing and bring me back to my youth.
