The Budget Hackintosh 2014 Build

THE BEST BUDGET HACKINTOSH 2014
This build will be my base model for the coming year 2014, it will cover pretty much all of your needs plus more. I have carefully chosen the best parts for the job and trying to keep it under budget. First of all we will start with the case as that's what most of you will be looking at. I choose the NZXT H230 because of its size and silence. Who really want to hear the noise of fans in their build?
As you can see there is plenty of room to work with and room for upgrades. There is both a black and white variant of this case so it all comes down to preference. I personally like the white case over black.
The CPU I picked is the i5 4670k as it's simply a great processor and is great for a budget build.
For the Ram I picked out the G.skill 16GB 2133MHz 2x8GB Ram, this is perfect and great when you're on a budget. The motherboard to complement all these parts is the Gigabyte GA-Z87-D3HP, this board simply just works.

As for the storage space and boot drive, I picked the SanDisk Extreme 128GB as the Boot drive and a Seagate 1TB SSHD as the storage. I also thought i would just put in a GTX 760 2GB GPU. There will also be a WiFi card added for your wireless needs.

Aerocool Templarius 650w PSU powers all of these. Not only does it look good but it also goes hand in hand with the white NZXT Case. All these parts are perfect for hackintosh and work amazingly.

The Cost of this build is: $1,650.90 Including GST.
*Postage is $169 within Australia only*

Updating Your Mavericks to 10.9.1

http://www.tonymacx86.com/attachments/77214-install109.jpg.html
The original installation media for Mac OS X Snow Leopard was a 10.6 DVD. The DVD was only updated once to version 10.6.3. In order to provide more frequent updates to users, Apple is now slipstreaming the latest version of OS X directly into the download. Upon fresh installation, no updating is necessary!
If you downloaded Mavericks from the App Store prior to December 16, 2013, you most likely have 10.9. To re-download Mavericks and update your Installation App to 10.9.1, simply log into the Mac App Store and click Download. When the download finishes, the app will automatically open. The updated 10.9.1 Install OS X Mavericks App can be found in the Applications folder. You can then re-create your UniBeast installation USB.

The New Mac Pro 2013

The Mac Pro is finally here!!
But at a very high cost. Here in Australia we are looking at spending $12,091.21 For a Mac Pro with 12-Core 2.7GHZ 30mb L3 Cache, 64GB 1866MHz Ram, 1TB Pci-e SSD and of course the dual AMD FirePro d7000 6GB V-Ram.
If you are willing to spend this much, I would say get it. They're a great platform to work on and powerful. But still their lack of customisation is a big downfall. Yes the new design is small and looks pretty, but is it completely practical?

I see that it can be great if all you buy is from Apple, but what happens when you need to attach more extensions into the I/O? I would love to get my hands on one of these. If anyone is feeling generous and wants to donate, please do.

I would love to do a comparison to my current Hackintosh to the New MacPro.

Mavericks 10.9.1 Update Caution

Recently Apple released the latest update to OS X Mavericks 10.9.1. Be very careful when updating as you will lose your Audio Driver. There is an easy fix for this by running Multibeast 6.0.1 and selecting your Audio driver that suits your motherboard.

Thanks to TonyMacx86

  • OS X Build 13B42
  • 13.0.0 Darwin kernel- not updated.
  • Updated Intel graphics drivers
    • If you use patched or modified drivers, you will need to re-apply changes to the updated drivers.
  • NVIDIA and AMD graphics drivers not updated
  • This update will replace your audio drivers.
    • You will have to reinstall AppleHDA using MultiBeast before or after reboot
    • If you use VoodooHDA, you will not need to make any modifications
  • Storage drivers not updated - TRIM patch persists upon reboot

Leave a comment if you are having any issues affecting your build.
