Next-generation Apple MacBook Air 12” enters small-volume production

Quanta Computer, a contract maker of electronics that produces certain products for Apple, has reportedly started small-volume production of Apple’s next-gen MacBook Air laptop with 12” display. The new notebooks will unlikely hit the market until 2015, but Quanta needs to learn how to produce what could be the world’s thinnest mobile PC to date.
DigiTimes reports that small volume-production of 12” MacBook Air laptops started this month and the volumes will begin to grow gradually starting next month. The initial production of 12” MacBook Air has not yet reached a satisfactory yield rate, which means that manufacturing volumes will not be increased until that happens. As a result, it is highly likely that the new notebooks will only emerge on the market in 2015.

Apple MacBook Air 12” was initially expected to hit the market in Q2 2014 or Q3 2014, but was delayed reportedly because Intel’s inability to begin shipments of its code-named “Broadwell” processors in 2014. The mobile PC is expected to feature a new clamshell structure, which is projected to make the new MacBook Air (MBA) even thinner and lighter than the current-generation models. Moreover, since Intel’s mainstream “Broadwell” chips made using 14nm process technology consume up to 15W of energy, the new MBA will be fanless.
Since the new MacBook Air 12” uses significantly different components compared to existing models, it is reported that its suppliers face challenges fulfilling Apple’s orders.

Apple Might be Pushing Back 12-inch Retina MacBook

Intel's continued Broadwell delays may cause Apple to push back the release of its rumored 12-inch MacBook, reports Taiwan's Economic Daily News.

According to the site, the device will not ship until late 2014 or early 2015 as it is expected to use Intel's 14-nanometer Broadwell chips, which have been delayed numerous times. The most recent rumors have suggested the U series Broadwell chips designed for use in Apple's MacBooks may not ship until February of 2015.

Apple's 12-inch MacBook, which is said to include a Retina display, has been described as a successor to the MacBook Air. Rumors originally pointed towards a fall 2014 launch date with mass production beginning in the third quarter.

News of the 12-inch MacBook first surfaced in October of 2013, with KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo describing the device as a MacBook with the portability of the 11-inch MacBook Air but the productivity of the larger 13-inch model, with a high-resolution display.

Rumors have also suggested the 12-inch MacBook will have a redesigned ultrathin chassiswith a revamped trackpad design that doesn't incorporate a mechanical button as well as no fan assembly for quieter operation.

Along with the 12-inch MacBook, Intel's Broadwell delays are likely having an impact on several of Apple's planned product releases. The first chips designed for Apple products are not expected to begin shipping until early 2015, and the chips designed for the Retina MacBook Pro and the iMac may not ship until mid-2015, meaning Apple will be unable to launch significant product updates until the chips are ready.

Though the 12-inch MacBook is delayed, a separate report from Economic Daily News[Google Translate], suggests new 11 and 13-inch MacBook Air models are set to enter production next month with new processors, chassis, screen, and other components.

Leaked iPad Air 2 Pictures Show A Thinner Aluminum Chassis As Well As A TouchID Sensor

There are quite a few differences between the present iPad Air and the leaked pictures showing the iPad Air 2. These include an overall thinner design as well as a TouchID Sensor on the device, which is a clear upgrade from the previous model. In addition to these, the speaker grill openings on the iPad Air 2 also appear to have been changed. Other differences include those in the volume button and the slide switch. In addition. there seems to be an extra mic opening on the iPad Air 2 next to the front Face Time camera on the device. The thinner design of the iPad Air 2 and the inclusion of FaceTime camera show a device that is going to provide strict competition in the market as well as the fact that Apple has not failed to deliver this time either. Below are the pictures for your viewing pleasure courtesy of the Japanese site ascii.jp. The folks over there have compared them to the present iPad Air so you can get a better look at their differences yourselves.
